Program Advisory:
Hey Clubacious Homo Sapiens - due to technicall difficulties, I'm very afraid of a crash during tonight's show. I'll be mortified, but it could happen that a crucial computer will conk on us tonight - in which case I won't be able to get back on mic and apologize personally,. I will of course post a comment in this space to explain what happened. So swizzle your cocktails with crossed fingers, and let's hope we have enough juice to make it to closing time.
Love,
The Management

At my Alzheimer's clinic we are coordinating a clinical trial involving lithium as an investigational drug for the purposes of slowing the progression of dementia. Wish us luck.

Jeff Golick:

Can you also use Alice's music, @Doug!

Go go go, @Stork!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff Golick
Alice's music is quite potent and must be dosed carefully.

Buena suerte, Doug! My grandparents and now my M=mom suffer from such. I'm probably next, and my grey matter is all I got going for me....

Thanks, Fred, swizzle sticks crossed! I know i used that one already.

@northguineahills
Fewer than 5% of people who develop a demensia can trace it genetics. It is quite rare. The most concerning situation regarding family history is when multiple family members (especially first-degree relatives: parents and full siblings) develop early onset dementia that progresses rapidly.

I've mentioned before that on Ornette's birthday this year the memory/dementia wing of the senior living facility where my mom resides played Shape of Jazz to Come for the residents. From my perspective -- no clinical controls, etc. -- it didn't hurt!

@doug thanks for the warning and good luck at your alshimer clinic would not wish that on my worst enemy

In my family, it's mostly the women that developed it in their 70s. Until my parent's generation, the men never made it until their 70s. My father and uncles look ok so far...

@ngh: so there's not much data on how you'll fare. You'll be fine, you've been listening to WFMU
  12:29pm
John from Florham park:

@Fred ever since I have started to listen to this station from just before I moved up here I have noticed that the DJs know their music and don’t mind imparting the knowledge to us and have discovered that a lot of the people on here are pretty knowledgeable too, and have given up on commercial rock radio

When I was 6, I went to Vacation Bible School, and played percussion. I had a conversation w/ the music teacher about Carl Orff, and then went to the library to find a book on him and his teaching system. Still amazed I had friends during the summer as a kid...
