'40 love poems' - there being 39. the 40th perversion is the desire to write poetry when one cannot. all the poems are terrible.

I like it when DJs participate in the comments but I get why some don’t much, seems like it could be very hard to do all things at once.
Avatar 1:35pm
Linda Lee:

no doubt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
coelacanth∅:

some folks just love to do radio. Stan sets it up but doesn't participate. so he has no problem with it, just not what he wants to do. i completely respect that.
Avatar 1:37pm
Linda Lee:

absolutely!
  1:37pm
John from Florham park:

@melinda I get why a lot of DJs do more then others, maybe they feel uncomfortable with it who knows
Avatar 1:38pm
Linda Lee:

thankfully it's not a requirement for a good radio show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
coelacanth∅:

...and i assume Jonesy's comment board would fill up with copious amounts of bullshit that Glenn doesn't need to see...
i wouldn't want to know about it either.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Doug Schulkind:

@John from Florham park
On the Drummer Stream, I stress the importance of the Comments. The interactivity of the shows on the stream is a hallmark.
Avatar 1:47pm
Linda Lee:

easily done, too!
far as i know it's all still voluntary. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
coelacanth∅:

John i mean Glen's show especially, and especially with X-Ray Burns -because of the nature of their banter; i think they'd get people stereotyping them and giving them shit; others misunderstanding them to agree with their own bigoted ways; others who'd mock on the musical selections (badfinger into Sinatra, etc...); still others telling them to play music intead of talking...i easily imagine a comment board shitshow.
...though i thought maybe he'd start doing it after X-Ray's passing, just for the company.
  1:49pm
John from Florham park:

@Doug I guess this is why I am listening more to the internet only streams more freedom to not stay within the confines of the FCC
Avatar 1:49pm
Linda Lee:

i wonder if a basic approach to the comments is generational?
  1:51pm
John from Florham park:

@Coel me too but if jonsey does not want to do it then he has that right
@linda that could be it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
Doug Schulkind:

The culture change at the mothership WFMU moves a little more slowly. Not too long ago, there were still some DJs who didn't even want to do playlist pages online. With the Drummer Stream being new (if almost 10 years old still counts as "new"), I have had the opportunity to put my stamp on things from the very beginning.
Avatar 1:53pm
Linda Lee:

i mean, everyone is totally different, obviously, but in terms of a basic approach to interactivity as a component of radio.. or entertainment.
Avatar 1:54pm
Linda Lee:

10 years old! what! already! where have i been? :-D
Avatar 1:55pm

We all need about seven ears now to capture everything that delights us. WFMU's intention is to provide numerous options and let each individual find their bliss. My intention is to empower the Drummer Stream to maximize that bliss. If I do my job well, everyone will need Blistex®.

@Doug like this morning I was listening to serious moonlight sonata with carol crow and she really put a great ahow on with all kinds of interviews and wow that took a lot of effort to do and I may not have the money right now to send this station something but I spread the gospel of WFMU to the unwashed masses so to speak
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm

listener "Cheri Pi",had or has a gif of that skit for an avatar. once when Joe McGasco's show was on i commented that when i heard his opening bit it reminded me of her avatar. i had no idea that the 2 were actually one and the same.
characteristically she ignored me.
  2:32pm
melinda:

The Drummer stream has excellent shows, but another reason I began hanging out here is that the commenters are a smaller group and you can sort of get to know people and have more interesting discussions.
  2:33pm

@coel yeah, the generational labels are somewhat arbitrary

fleep i didn't use the internet 'till 2008; the fmu site and comments board, my only social media -'till c.2011, and sparingly (as i was listening via fm)
here and on youboob i have always used "coelacanth" though and i think you happened to be witness to that troll using this moniker, claiming to've used it first. that same or a different clown still pulls that now and then.

@John from Florham Park
I believe the embarrassment of riches flows in both directions. DJs on the streams and FMU pour their guts into doing great shows. In response, listeners' unwavering devotion, loyalty, faith and, yes, dollars during fundraising times, is almost incomprehensible. It is what allows us to be adventurous, unpredictable, and spontaneous. It's a love affair I have been happy to wallow in for 32 years.
