Avatar 10:28pm
Kris Holmes:

Yeah, The Crunch! Great record. Yes, Jeff has now opened a record store in NoCal & essentially closed the "blog" part of the site down, it had kind of died anyway, not many people were contributing anymore. The message board is still going but many of us original members have pretty much moved on. I actually saw the songwriter of The Crunch perform the song live about 10 years ago with his band, he didn't even remember writing it!! He passed away a couple of year back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
Funky16Corners:

Hi C!
Avatar 10:30pm
Erica:

Yeah Kris I never got to contribute because I couldn't find any strange, obscure records, only what was well-known in my area. Despite me not being a fan of vinyl records, I did enjoy hearing the music itself as it was worth discovering music I didn't know existed in the past.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
Funky16Corners:

I miss Waxidermy
Avatar 10:31pm
Kris Holmes:

there is still a lot of obscure stuff out there, I still probably see at least a record a week that i've never seen before!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
Franco Twinkie:

Speaking of the Charlatans, one day I was walking thru the Haight taking pictures of Christmas trees laying in the gutter, and I found myself on Downey Street, and it wasn't to hard to find the front porch they are all standing on in their most iconic photo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
Funky16Corners:

Another really interesting band that is all but forgotten, but super important to the SanFran scene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Franco Twinkie:

The Charlatans did Alabama Bound early on, and later turnded it into a commercial for Groom'n Clean, a hair gel in a tube that you could use instead of washing your hair. I'll bet it was real popular with all the filthy hippies that lived in the bushes in Golden Gate Park.
  10:40pm
rw:

Evening! There's a hair gel you can use instead of washing???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm

Hey rw! I'm betting it didn't catch on.

rw:

Not that I've got much hair to wash, but still.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm

RW, It lasted for about a minute. There has a great commercial with a bunch of teenagers dancing on a boat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm

I love Let Her Dance
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Funky16Corners:

@Melinda - Me too. One of my all time faves
  10:44pm
rw:

I'm with melinda and Funky on this one.
Avatar 10:44pm
Erica:

Is it me or do I prefer the single version over the album version of "I Fought the Law?" The album version had too much instrumentation to it and rerecorded vocals. "Let Her Dance", however is pretty good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
Franco Twinkie:

Just to be a trouble maker, a friend of mine went up to Van Dyke Parks in a restaurant in Pasadena and kissed him while he was eating dinner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
melinda:

It was used well at the end of The Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
coelacanth∅:

i remember ads for that gel. i wanted to try it so i wouldn't have to bother washing my hair but my mother said no.
...anyway it's not any worse than leave-in conditioner, which obviously will make your hair get dirty very quickly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
Funky16Corners:

@Franco - I might kiss VDP but only because I love his music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm

Whittier Blvd is huge, and therefore interesting. I lived on the east side, suburbia, and even it was interesting. Head toward East LA and it gets interestinger.

@chresti: I haven't ventured into that yet, but I'm interested. I may love good beer, like good food, but I'm not a beer snob, beer is beer.

coel is full of good ideas. I did once make scotch bonnet flavored vodka, and that REALLY BURNED!

I'm still working on the quarter oz I got two years ago...

@Erica: I watch Ozzie Rules on the weekend mornings....

This show is over already? I wanted more. Goes to show time flies when you're enjoying yourself, especially at night.
