	10:51pm rw: Is there a formula for writing songs like this? It's kind of insane. I've never written a song so I don't really know how it works.

	10:54pm coelacanth∅: everyone has their own method, but i'll guess that Bacharach gets a melody in his head, thinks of a lyric spontaneously in the course of the day while that melody is in there, then sits down and expands the idea.

	11:07pm Dean: I don't hear classical in Bacharach at all. Be Bop, yes. And, otherwise, pure pop. I don't like Cooder's MD. For me, it's a let-down from BB's, which is, as I mentioned upthread, perfect.

	11:11pm Parq: The Losers Lounge, NYC's celebrated gaggle of local artists, feted their own 10th Anniversary with an all-Bacharach show years ago. In fact, 15 years ago, as they are about to celebrate their silver. Larry, what will you do when you reach 250 shows?
	11:12pm Franco Twinkie: I love how Cal Tjader always took on the hits of the day. My favorite will always be his take on Gimme Shelter.

	11:12pm coelacanth∅: whoh-oh candida, we can make it together; the further from here girl,the better ..... that and knock 3 times; yellow ribbon. all those 45s were in the house.
	11:13pm Parq: Larry, I can't really describe it, except to say that no one else sounded like them, and they rocked without rocking.
	11:13pm Erica: You gotta admit though, Tony Orlando & Dawn's cover of He Don't Love You is much more soulful and melodic than the original version. Just my opinion by the way.
	11:13pm Dean: I like how you slipped Gershwin in there, F16C. Me? I hear Raspberries. Shostakovich?! Huh?! Not by a million miles. Now, BB is a fan of sour harmonies a la Prokofiev, but he wrote songs, two, three minute exercises in rhythm and cadence. He also wrote those instrumental tunes that ended up featured as intros or outros on TV. Even those exhibit no ambitions beyond occupying a few minutes. I love Bacharach, but classical he ain't.

	11:20pm Dean: The LP Casino Royale has for years been a desideratum of so-called audiophiles. Evidently it was recorded very well. I've never heard it until now, and I'm listening on a chromebook, so sound is shitty.

	11:34pm Dean: I think what I love about Burt's version of MD is the sense that it is about divorce, nothing more or less. Cover versions are too lyrical, too song-like. Burt's version manages to deliver song and discourse in exquisite measure. "One day married, the next day free..." Love and anti-love described, almost explained.

Now, BB is a fan of sour harmonies a la Prokofiev, but he wrote songs, two, three minute exercises in rhythm and cadence. He also wrote those instrumental tunes that ended up featured as intros or outros on TV. Even those exhibit no ambitions beyond occupying a few minutes. I love Bacharach, but classical he ain't.

Burt's version manages to deliver song and discourse in exquisite measure. "One day married, the next day free..." Love and anti-love described, almost explained.
