Could never tell if this record was legitimately something Neil wanted to make or if he did it so his record label would dump him. I think in the long run it’s alright, but I imagine at the time a lot of people would have thought WTF?

I thought Kraftwerk was the inspiration for Trans. but I could just be making that up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm
Otis Fodder:

It has something to do with his son and the vocoder, but have to look up the story again. It's an interesting back story from what I recall. I love the whole album. And I also love NY solo and CSNY.
  4:23pm
Welsh Rarebit:

“Young started playing with two new machines he had acquired, a Synclavier and a vocoder. Crazy Horse guitarist Poncho Sampedro recalled, "Next thing we knew, Neil stripped all our music off, overdubbed all this stuff, the vocoder, weird sequencing, and put the synth shit on it."”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm in the chair and on the tablet! Comfortable now

Yeah, Wikipedia says something about Neil’s son having cerebral palsy and it was to do with therapy related to that.

Holy Tire Iron tapes on Discogs,
www.discogs.com...
Holy Tire Iron was a 90s audio zine project by Reverend Raye, from West Somerville, Massachusetts. One would call the phone number and listen to the stories that others had left on the machine. It was not a 900 service, so if you were outside of the Boston area you had to pay for long distance phone charges. There was no advertising, the 'message changed every day,' and was made up of what callers called in. It was active for a number of years in the early-mid 1990s. The motto was "Inspiration is only a phone call away" and Raye called it free public media and added "Would you like fries with your art?"

There used to be an anonymous "confession line" which resulted in a zine called "Confession" I think. They printed the best messages in each issue.
Avatar 4:46pm
Archivist Vivian:

Weird Al Yankovic and a friend of his operated an anonymous joke hotline in Downey CA in the mid 70s called the Zygot line.
Avatar 4:47pm
Archivist Vivian:

There's a tape posted on Youtube from that line of Al and his friend, Mike Solton, performing a parody of Randy Newman's "Short People", calling it "Zyg Callers", about the people who called in.

I may have called that joke line when I was a little kid. There was a Nazi party number in San Diego too that I should have recorded. We used to call it and laugh and marvel.

Unrelated to what we are listening to, Otis. But I am trying to obtain more Mar-Tie recordings. I contacted this guy who has three but he's a college teacher and was too busy last time I asked. I actually sampled Mar-Tie on an upcoming project I'm doing.

Only found a couple of mentions online in zines, like SO WHAT a zine by Rev Groovy G (obsessed with the number 23 in his zine). The tapes I have were in my old cassette tape catalog.
