Happy to have you here in "reality," @Listener Gregory.

I've missed the show almost a month straight, but I have good excuses: live shows by musicians from Uzbekistan then Kazakhstan

This is a great album (recently got the Audiophile treatment, remastered on premium vinyl for a rediculous price. Great stuff (with a great cover photo of Rollins, though. Miss that on digital versions... )
Hi, all!

This is Ornette as a side man, interesting still has more bebop in him, but you know it's him... One of his few piano and sideman recordings
Avatar 9:29am
doca:

Hey, @Jeff G, how's everything going?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am
Jeff Golick:

Pretty good, thanks, all things considered. Got a college kid home on break this week; broadcasting from his room (otherwise known as "the office").
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am
Jeff Golick:

I think this Bley/Hillcrest Club date has retroactively become better known as an Ornette gig, even if originally released under Bley's name.

doctorjazz:

Nice my youngin' is home for a 4 day break as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am
fred:

Ulzhan Baybussinova was great, as always. I love her voice. I'm more into dance shows lately: about one Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker show a week this month, including the wonderful Rosas Danst Rosas this Wednesday, and I'm a huge fan (I've seen her more than fifty times already)
  9:33am
Listener Gregory:

It's strange how much of the Ornette has been smoothed out of this performance (compared to later quartet versions).
Avatar 9:35am
Scraps:

I think I have both. (mp3.) But it seems like a Bley date, if I can remember...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am

@fred: that sounds wonderful. Dance, for me, has been hard to grasp? Probably my New England roots -- too much body.

@Jeff: De Keersmaeker's dance tends to the abstract and geometrical, but it's also very physical and sensual in a way. Not really a NE thing
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:48am

It does at least sound like Dolphy... As @LG said, Clifford was really tough to identify.

Unfortunately some of Carter’s albums in the eighties were on Gramavision, which means they were awesome, and way out of print.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am

Yeah, @Scraps. Gramavision is my top pick for label I'd like to see come back via Bandcamp. That Carter series, Roots & Folklore, is at least due for it's own box set treatment.

  11:07am

Listener Robert:

Just imagining what an "extet" is like. Some number of former musicians?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am

Hey, @Listener Robert! Was wondering the same. Welcome.
  11:12am
Listener Gregory:

@Listener Robert, or maybe they just couldn't be bothered to count them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am
fred:

@Jeff: I'm not sure. Most of it is EU, but actual copyright fee collection is country by country, with local twists. For instance, in France you have to pay to get copyright revenues, by joining a thing called SACEM. If you do, you have to let them handle rights for all your recordings, and you get nothing if you don't reach a sales threshold; only the rich share in. Not a good system

Doesn't Peter Schickele sometimes conduct a schleptet?

I got an email from Wayne Horvitz this week saying that the CD I had supported/ordered was finally ready. But it started so long ago that I have no idea whatsoever of what it is. It was originally slated to appear in spring of 2017.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am

  11:43am
Listener Gregory:

Looking up the project, I see it's "Those Who Remain," which will have a number of more "classical" compositions, including one for full orchestra + Bill Frisell and one for string quartet + Karla Kihlstedt. So, it sounds promising (to me), especially now that it actually exists.
