I really enjoyed the Wildflowers series of albums that covered the Loft Jazz scene

What was the book your wife gave you? I would like to read about that scene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am
Jeff Golick:

@duke: www.ucpress.edu... - Loft Jazz by Michael C. Heller. It's from a university press and has some academese to wade through, but a very solid document of the scene, from several perspectives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am
Jeff Golick:

Also good: this 1977 Stanley Crouch article in the New York Times about the loft scene: www.nytimes.com...

Thanks Jeff. Just downloaded it from NYPL.

I’m waiting to finish grad school so I can read that book! (Thanks to brother Lore of 50 Miles of Elbow Room for gifting me with it.)

Wait, whut?! I am finished with grad school? Outstanding!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am
Jeff Golick:

@Doug: well done, sir! And welcome, sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am
Jeff Golick:

Computer question: for playlist stuff I'm using my wife's MacBook, and whenever I type a new comment, it opens a new tab (instead of a pop-up) for the Post That Now stage. I have selected "allow pop-ups" for this site, but it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions?

Good morning, Jeff, and hello to the OUT crowd, and those who identify as OUT curious.

Gotta wade back into the Triscuit Sea. Keep hurling those musical life preservers, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am
Uncle Michael:

Jeff, does the broser have a plug-in or setting that by design, forces pop-ups into new tabs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am
Uncle Michael:

I'm out with the OUT crowd. I go where the OUT crowd goes.

Yesterday was the tenth anniversary of October 6, 2008: my stroke (and my right-side paralysis), at 44 years old, when I got suddenly old. It’s still weird.

(I’ve announced this in a few places, and if you were there and are exasperated, I’m sorry.)

try using firefox or safari. i'm not crazy about chrome.
Avatar 10:06am

Firefox lost me when they announced they would only do one row of tabs. I switched to Pale Moon, a Firefox-like that veered off. I’m still happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am
Jeff Golick:

Howdy, @glenn! Trying safari now...

...worked! Thanks.

Hi! End of show note: today is the 63rd anniversary of the first public reading of Allen Ginsberg's "Howl." To mark this occasion, Give the Drummer Radio will broadcast Ginsberg reading the poem, from a 1956 performance at San Francisco State U. (The very first was on this date in 1955.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am
Jeff Golick:

That Ginsberg poem will begin immediately following the end of today's D:O Radio. (Plus or minus a minute or two.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am

Wow. Give the Drummer Radio DJs are pretty great. We should all give the station more money!
