Listener comments!

  9:15am
Listener Gregory:

Morning, Jeff. You could also make things harder for yourself if you tied one hand behind your back. Just an idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am
Jeff Golick:

Hello there, @Listener Gregory! I generally prefer to shoot myself in the foot, but yours is a good suggestion, too.
  9:18am
Listener Gregory:

There is plenty of time to do either. My specialty is shooting myself in the foot while it is in my mouth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am
Jeff Golick:

It's a rare talent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am
Dave in Vermont:

good morning
i didn't hear all of your opening spiel; are you doing singles?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am
Jeff Golick:

Hi, @Dave in VT! I am not doing singles - I'm not set up for it, technically, or constitutionally. But I am limiting myself to songs no longer than 7:00, in common cause with my fellow DJs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am
Dave in Vermont:

well six minutes and 50 seconds give or take should be enough for most bathroom breaks and runs to the kitchen for coffee or snacks
interesting patriotic set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am
Jeff Golick:

Oh, and only music that I've come across or otherwise "imported" this calendar year.
  9:35am
Listener Gregory:

I think most of the classic Ornette Coleman Qt pieces are in your time limit, though you wouldn't have received them in 2018.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am
Jeff Golick:

It's possible I re-received them this year, as I re-ripped a lot of stuff in preparation for our move earlier this summer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am
Sem:

Good morning. Jeff, and hello to the OUT crowd as well as lucky serendipitous listeners around the round world.

Appendix Out? Like his voice, reminds me of someone from long ago, but can't pull it up .
  10:18am
Listener Gregory:

I think a lot of John Zorn Book of Angels recordings clock in under 7 min. (Sorry for my stream-of-consciousness ramblings on this.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am
Jeff Golick:

@doc: it's early Alasdair Roberts.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:20am
doctorjazz:

I'd guess lots of the 1st 10 Masada albums (on DIW, Zorn, Dave Douglass,... ) would fit the time limit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am
Jeff Golick:

I appreciate your ramblings, @LG. Or, rather, Ramblin'.

@Jeff: ehh. still october. four years ago, Velma died. (october 18). and my stroke happened (october 6). I look forward to november.

how bout you?
Avatar 10:24am
Scraps:

Short short jazz times: Naked City
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am
Jeff Golick:

I'm sure that makes for a tough month, @Scraps. My sympathies.

Things here are...ok? All things considered, I guess.

Lovely string plucking ... I knew this album was out, guess I need to get it...

Hang in, Scraps, October's almost gone ... Sorry.
  10:29am

Naked City! Very true.
Avatar 10:30am

Many short jazz times are involved with vocals. Though not nearly so with avant-garde vocals....

I did get someone to repair my external hard drive with a ton of music that failed. Still looking for a not too expensive back up of anyone has suggestions, it would be appreciated

JtotheK:

Red Clay jams! Hi Jeff, salutations everyone.
Avatar 10:34am
Scraps:

Whew, have to lie down. Still listening. Cheers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am
Jeff Golick:

I use BackBlaze, @doc, which is a cloud backup service. Not too expensive. Doug used them, too, though when he lost a ton of music, they didn't have it all? So, mixed reviews, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am
Jeff Golick:

G'morning, @JtotheK! Nice to see you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am
Jeff Golick:

Note: I will fill in the accuplaylist with more details post-show. Not really with it enough this morning to get everything in as we go.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:42am
doctorjazz:

I recall he got 90-95% back (could be wrong, though). Though with the amount of music he must have stored, 5-10% would still amount to much music lost. I'll look into Backblaze. A local computer repair guy got the whole drive onto another, cost a bit over $200, including a new external drive, so it actually wasn't bad. Don't think I can rely on crashes always being repaired.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:44am
doctorjazz:

It to him forever to repair it ,though, but he was half the price of other local techs offering the same service

Shoot, I missed the Jack Wilkins. I listened last night to VSOP's Red Clay, and thought about spinning the Wilkins album. I remember special ordering it from the record store a long, long time ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am
Jeff Golick:

Heya, @Dean. I have heard very little VSOP. That Wilkins was reissued earlier this year, I think.
  10:49am
Listener Gregory:

Jeff, all these cuts are singles, so there is no "album information" to add! So, just take it easy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am
Jeff Golick:

Or, as I've named this playlist on my computer, "singles."
  10:50am
Listener Gregory:

If a regular listener were to hear this show without any of the explanations, would s/he notice anything different?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am
Jeff Golick:

Probably not?
  10:53am
Dean:

It's been overdue for a digital release. I bought the LP around 1980 after hearing that track on the radio. One of the earlier jazz records in my collection, not counting jazz-prog-fusion stuff like Passport, Isotope...
  10:54am
Dean:

The VSOP sounded great, not least Hubbard himself.
  10:59am
Listener Gregory:

Maybe there's less "jazz" on this show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am
Jeff Golick:

Yeah. And forecast calling for less jazz ahead, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am

For sure, @rw! They wear the BFD emblem loudly and proudly. Sorta like the law firm Morrison & Forrester, I suppose. They refer to themselves as MoFo.

Speaking of singles, I just heard that Phil Glass is going to perform his Music in 12 Parts at Town Hall. That is a fantastic early work, but I have it on 4 CDs, so the concert is going to be how long?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am

I'd guess 12 parts, @LG.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am
Jeff Golick:
