I remembered your request!

Oh hey that's great. It was a suggestion but thanks!

Orpheus. I've heard one of their songs but not this one before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
Funky16Corners:

Really interesting group from Boston
Avatar 10:21pm
Erica:

Thanks for taking my request Larry. Their first couple albums contain (scratch that) ARE rare gems compared to their hits like "Summer Breeze" or "Get Closer".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Funky16Corners:

My pleasure. If I have it, and it fits in with the theme I'm more than happy to do a little shuffling.

Evening! That last one was pretty, uh... not sure of the adjective… melodramatic maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey rw! Not as melodramatic as the original by Tim Buckley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Funky16Corners:

On might say that Tim had a tendency toward histrioinics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Funky16Corners:

HISTRIONICS...I cannot/should not type after 10PM

Heading out to pick up my daughter from the airport. Will be listening from the road. Thanks Larry and take care all!

I know. I was wondering the same thing.

I'm here, listening in and out between domestic episodes.

Hi Dean!
  11:22pm
Dean:

Can't say I remember the arrival of this Dave Mason album--as opposed to, say, 1974's eponymous record--but I do remember its ubiquity. It was always there, and I always almost bought it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
Funky16Corners:

It's a great record. I was led to it by the appearance of two of its songs on the live Traffic LP 'Welcome To the Canteen'. 'Alone Together' was recorded with a bunch of Leon Russell's crew.

still b/p:

Wanted to sit on steps of cabin a while longer with crickets and warm night, but also wanted some Testimony before sleep. Glad you're here/there.
Avatar 11:26pm
Erica:

My favorite album by Dave Mason is Let It Flow, mainly for the title track "Let It Go Let It Flow" and the hit song "We Just Disagree". I've listened to some of his earlier stuff too but it's a bit too blusey for me. Reminds me of the Allman Brothers Band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey SBP! I also enjoy the (natural) sounds of the summer night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
Funky16Corners:

@Erica - I think Dave is underrated, from Traffic, on.
Avatar 11:28pm
Erica:

I've also been listening to Jim Capaldi's stuff too. He was also a member of Traffic and his stuff is more folky than Dave's.
Avatar 11:29pm
Erica:

Funky and jazzy too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
Funky16Corners:

Capaldi did some nice singing with Traffic. It gets lost in all the Winwood.
  11:31pm
Dean:

Not to discount Winwood. I'm not a fan of his late '70s and '80s pop, but I do enjoy the stuff he did with Stomu Yamashta.

Greetings, Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Funky16Corners:

@DEan - I like Winwood a lot. I just think because his contributions are so prominent that Capaldi kind of gets lost in the shuffle
Avatar 11:32pm
Erica:

His 80's stuff is popular amongst Soft AC fans. What about the Spencer Davis Group Larry?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm
Funky16Corners:

Love his stuff with Spencer Davis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm
Funky16Corners:

Aside from the big hits there are some great R&B/soul covers and a couple of very cool organ instrumentals
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Jeff Ash:

I must take my leave. Thanks, Larry!
Avatar 11:34pm
Erica:

Did you know that the UK version of "Gimmie Some Lovin'" does NOT feature the crowd or backup singers? Sounds pretty bland without that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Funky16Corners:

Nite Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
Funky16Corners:

@Erica - I don't think I've ever heard that version
Avatar 11:36pm
Erica:

I heard it on British radio before. I will send a link later if you like.

According to songfacts.com, producer Jimmy Miller "made the US release more appealing to American taste by adding percussion and a female chorus."
  11:46pm
still b/p:

Something in the Turnbull track reminded me of Cohen and one of Altman's selections for McCabe and Mrs. Miller. Then while I'm checking on that, something else Leonard this way spins.

I'm toying with the ether tonight!

My introduction to Terry Reid was (predictably) via Cheap Trick. "Speak Now..." is epic.
