There was a Globetrotters Saturday cartoon show...that’s what the theme reminds me of.

Hey SBP! That's the theme from the show!

Greetings from Green Bay, where we have dug out from the record 8 inches of snow received yesterday.

Hey C! Hey Jeff! No snow here but CRAZY wind.

Yeah, we sent that your way.

missed Harlem Globetrotters theme. Is that “Sweet Georgia Brown”, or another song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Scraps! No, the theme from the cartoon show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
coelacanth∅:

snow rain wind snow rain wind...today's the wind. a few days ago we got 5-6" of snow in the morning and it was pretty much gone by 2 pm. a few weeks ago the snow was so wet and heavy then it froze for days that i'll get at least 4 weeks of employment out of it. (at least)
it still makes me sad...as if humans aren't (more directly) responsible for a serious deficiency of trees.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
Funky16Corners:

We lost a lot of cedar/pine etc during that wet snow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
coelacanth∅:

my sister did too, as well as hemlock, tamarack, plum, etc damage; ayoung eastern redbud that will live but now has a weird shape...and a giant, ancient crab apple that went from 4 major trunks down to one. it was a most amazing tree, with horizontal branches extending maybe 50'; now it's just a weird old thing waiting to die.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Funky16Corners:

It's a shame. The last time we had this much damage was during Hurricane Sandy where one house lost five big cedars in a row. We were spare but have mainly oak and maple
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm
coelacanth∅:

our family used to gather around the tv once (or maybe twice) a year for those globetrotter specials where they played a serious team and ostensibly won by miles and flustered the refs to no end.
Avatar 10:25pm
Scraps:

Good god, the “Harlem Globetrotters Theme” for the animated show (which I watched; I was six) was written by Jeff Barry, who supervised the album, and got Neil Sedaka, etc, to write other songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
Funky16Corners:

I loved the Simpson's episode where Homer went to a Globetrotters game and bet on the Generals
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm

...my sister lost a few trees in the big hurricanes in the last 6 years, but all in all suffered more damage from this snow.

I had this Marty Thau album, but the version of Shadow Line I really remember is the one in Urrgh. (Urghh? I'm too lazy to look it up.) That was the only segment in the whole movie that was shot at CB.

F16C, I love that "Ben Birdie" cartoon! They all float away at the end on a sea of Helen Kane's tears. "Coo-Coo Nuts Grove", wasn't it? That's where I got one of my pet expressions "Well, well and well!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm

I think so. I'll have to dig out my WB DVDs and rewatch. I love some of the now-obscure caricatures.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm

Wait, no I'm not. This is definitely not "Someday We'll Be Together." Some sort of screamer rave up, segueing into an acoustic slide guitar blues song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm

now we've got old country blues gospel.

Listening on FMU phone app with no problem.

Yep, Ralph Nielsen and the Chancellors on that rave-up, and now Lil McClintock on that old country gospel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm

She was a New Orleans singer, made one great but neglected 45 in the mid 60s, sang backup on a lot of other people's records, then made this album in 1969. It was bold move to do a whole side like this. I think it's amazing

She had a 1966 single 'I'm Gonna Run Away From You' produced by Bert Berns that is a big Northern Soul record, it even entered the UK charts in 1972 or 1973. Oddly enough it's included on this album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm

You can tell that this part was produced and arranged by the same guy that did 'Mr Big Stuff' by Jean Knight.
  11:41pm

Waited til done as sort of a maybe-courtesy: Noticed the “and oh my darling” melody line in Love Is Here is similar to the second line of the Starry Starry Night verse, and then couldn’t stop hearing the near match, which I never noticed over the years of hearing hit version of Love.

I love this record. Nothing else like it in their catalog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm

maybe Tami Lynn felt the time was right for an epic, side-long track because of the relative success of "hot buttered soul", and "by the time i get to phoenix"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm
Funky16Corners:

I think that's a valid theory. Why it didn't hit, and why they didn't follow it up (she didn't make another album until 1992) boggles the mind.
