Late to the party, but I have arrived mid-popcorn. That, of course, is the record I found Saturday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm
Parq:

Cosby (in light of recent events, I should beg pardon for bringing him up, but this was a long time ago) did a spoof of JB in the 70s that featured his call-outs to his drummer.

All the music in this set excerpted from a tribute mix I did when Clyde Stubblefield passed away last year. You can dig the whole thing here: funky16corners.com...

I remember that F16C popcorn mix!

That last set slayed, by the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm

I had never heard any version of Soul Makossa other than the one that was a hit in the U.S. in the mid 70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
Funky16Corners:

Thanks Parq!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm

The Bob James song with the heavy Idris Muhammad break was 'Nautilus' BTW

The picture sleeve of this 45 is amazing, Joe and his band in dinner jackets, with ascots, all holding long cigarette holders

Hey Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm

Mongo covered that? Way cool.

still b/p:

Didn’t realize before that you can get your cha cha on and your ya yas out both t’ once with the Marmalade music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
Funky16Corners:

Mongo covered a lot of cool stuff. His 1960s Columbia albums are cheap, plentiful and full of good music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey SBP!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
Parq:

This was what first brought Mongo to my attention. Needless to say, it caught this 15 year old boy's eye.

Funky16Corners:

Oh yeah!
  11:44pm
still b/p:

How’s evbody doon? Tunes too good to silence.
Smarty phone technology — recently adopted — has tossed me back five decades in a fashion, with listening abed reminding me of transistor radio sessions in the blankets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
Funky16Corners:

That's cool, too. Sneak that phone under the covers and listen in the dark!
  11:45pm
Dean:

Sure, but being reminded of transistor radio isn't even close to listening to transistor radio.
Avatar 11:46pm
geezerette:

Larry, this show! Super audio sunshine every time!

Howdy, Parq!, Still B/P!, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
Funky16Corners:

Fidelity's better, but we all get to use our imagination. My memories of listening to the radio well into the night as a kid are strong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
Funky16Corners:

Thanks Geezerette!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
Funky16Corners:

And hey Dean!
  11:47pm
Dean:

Likewise. As a kid, as a young adult, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
Funky16Corners:

I even used to listen to TV! I could pick up the audio from the ABC affiliate in Philadelphia way down at the bottom of the FM dial. I used to listen to the late show.
  11:51pm
still b/p:

Had a funny tech reminder with a hand- size radio a few months ago. Mostly dormant, but pulled it out to specifically use its TV audio bands for some forgotten reason. White noise there.... and I remembered, “Ohhhh yeah, the stations aren’t broadcasting an analog signal no’ mo’.” The feature... it is useless.
  11:52pm
Dean:

I can't begin to inventory the stuff I heard: amazing evangelical call-in shows, Johnny Otis, blues dudes, prog rock outta Long Beach, Rodney on the ROQ, ordinary AM hits, early "Love Line" with Poor Man, classical on KUSC...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm
Funky16Corners:

That was one of my favorite things as a kid. Kind of a secret way to stay up with the TV without staying up with the TV.
  11:54pm
rw:

Hey! Working. Listening. Digging.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Funky16Corners:

hey RW!
  11:56pm

Dean, you mean prog rock on KNAC out of the F&M Building?

Dang. Show's over. It was a good one. Thanks Funky16Corners!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm
Funky16Corners:

Dig it in the archive tomorrow RW!
  11:57pm

Heard it all! Just wanting more.
