Man, the list of people Caiola did studio work with is amazing.

The Funny Little Dropouts never got the breaks the Four Freshmen did.

So I've heard Caiola's work many thousands of times without knowing it. And on many familiar songs I still hear on stations that play period-popular, American songbook and MOR tunes. Looking at the list, "Oh, I know that, I love that, I know those and these..."

great (obviously - it's the staple singers) "this train".
-reminds me of peter paul & mary, who i recently was making a playlist of, because i love some of their music so much but always have to skip some songs. i don't know how i never knew this before, but in this process i discovered what absolute assholes they were - in regard to claiming songwriting credit for songs they did not pen. they easily rival led zeppelin in the unscrupulous department.

Interesting re: PP&M. I believe it. Did they do a version of "This Train"? It got covered by a number of gospel artists

Hiya Danny, enjoying the show in the land of Oz. Great to hear something from Portishead's much under rated third studio album. Haven't played it for years, but will be later on. Now Chet & Bill have just added to my afternoon, followed by something I've never heard,
(hooked on that intro!).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm

Greetings Zonk, and thanks! Totally agreed that Third is underrated. I love it so much

Danny yes PP&M did a nice "this train", though i'm sure i wouldn't like it as much if that group's 1st & 3rd albums weren't what weened me off shitty children's records that always bored me. also, our family used to sit in the living room and all sing along to those records, beginning to end. (along with a few others)
nostalgia's a powerful thing.
(though becoming aware of this thievery is also a powerful influence, for me.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
coelacanth∅:

(haha! i just looked and sure enough "this train" was written by the peter & the paul of said group...if one were ignorant enough to believe the album credits)

Coel, which train song was Elizabeth Cotton's?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
