Since I've moved to Gainesville, the Gordian Knot of my stress has untied itself, Feels good to going back to making music again.

Cursed cable issues. Y'all are hearing those little drops, right?

I'm glad NGH! I know this move has been extremely stressful fer you. Nice to have some outlets, at least
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Little Danny:

Thanks geez, and hi! p.s. Apologies for the pathetic lateness of my email response to you btw!
Avatar 10:08pm
northguineahills:

The causes for the move were more stressful (although moving itself was stressful in itself). Thanks.

The drops just add extra timbral texture.

I have a gig next month, and set up a FL leg tour for Talibam! in Feb, it feels good to be my old self again.

ah the Teorema soundtrack. i like that one.

Someone should do a show that's dedicated as a retrospective to Morricone including his days at Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza.

Hiya Danny and all. Lovely start to the show. Dug the Puff.

@ngh that Gruppo reord is *crazy*
Avatar 10:12pm

Thanks hyde, I thought leaving NYC would land me where there would be no audience/venue for the music I make, hell, even the music I dj.
Avatar 10:12pm

Cheers to making music again!

Hey buddies!

Avatar 10:13pm

There have been two different box sets of Gruppo music in the last few years, and other reissues. Basically, the only other game in the world that vibed like AAM or MEV.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm

@NGH: forgive me for asking, but where might I hear your music? Online anywhere?

Here's a lot of stuff, including many sessions I did w/ Daniel Carter. I think all of my turntabilism is on cdr and I need to dig out and digitize: parenthesismusic.com... (I'm sometimes credit by my given name, aaron.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Little Danny:

Okay, great! I'll give it a listen. Thanks!
Avatar 10:26pm
northguineahills:

It's pretty much my period where I went from avant to free improv to fluxus. However, the guest musicians were the scaffolding for the direction the music went. We had folk singers, noise rockers, techno producers, free jazz veterans, classically trained musicians, and ethnic musicians from around the world. The idea was to free everyone from their anchorings of what they were used to playing.
  10:40pm
zonk ludlow:

New Zealand certainly punched above its weight when it came to producing great indie pop/rock bands in the 80's,90's. LBGP a big personal fave.

Oh man so true, Zonk. I mean Flying Nun's early and early-ish catalog is basically unimpeachable
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Little Danny:

@melinda: what Zonk said
  10:47pm
zonk ludlow:

So true Danny. In my teenage years the early Flying Nun stuff meant everything. Still my fave indie label. PS: Think the Warlocks have probably got some among their musical collections also.
Avatar 10:48pm
northguineahills:

@Zonk: So true! Heck, even Dunedin, NZ itself puts not even most college towns but also NYC to shame per capita.
  10:52pm
zonk ludlow:

@northguineahills, indeed there was certainly something in the water in that part of the world back then. As an Australian I have often flirted with a move across the ditch, love so much about NZ.
Avatar 10:55pm
northguineahills:

I've had many friends take sojourns to Melbourne for the music scene and just record music and play, and enjoy life there.

The furthest south I've been in Singapore, I need to make it to the antipodean world!
  10:58pm
zonk ludlow:

@ northguineahills, Melbourne is without question the cultural capital of Oz, sadly I'm in Sydney but visit as much as I can.You should jump a flight and check it.

Also, do you know if this is the first recording of "Joy Spring"? I believe it is...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm

Googled-it actually isn't the first version, there was another version he released about a month earlier
(have to look for that 10 inch, have it on LP of course...)
en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 11:17pm
northguineahills:

It's on my list, zonk. The Wire had an article on the Sydney music scene two years ago, so it still looks promising. I suppose it's mostly a collection suburbs orbiting the downtown.
Avatar 11:18pm
northguineahills:

How can a song called "Planets and Stars" not be full of fluffy New Age hippie goodness???!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Little Danny:

Ah right, doctor - it's that Clifford Brown Ensemble Featuring Zoot Sims 10" on Pacific Jazz. (Also quite affordable.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Little Danny:

True, NGH. Though it could also be, I dunno, some heavy space rock voyage?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
doctorjazz:

To be precise, according to the Wikipedia link, he recorded it about a month earlier with a band that had Zoot Sims on it, but it was released after the one with Roach, if I read it correctly.
AS far as affordable, did another quick search-where do you find these "quite affordable". Not so cheap when I've searched...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
Little Danny:

After years of collecting jazz on vinyl, I might be a bit sick in the head about what constitutes "affordable."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
doctorjazz:

I suspect that may be the case. :)
Avatar 11:28pm
still b/p:

If you isolated the non-rhythmic music part of the Walker track, it could pass for some Eno-Fripp stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
Little Danny:

When I say "hopeless record collector" I am of course referring to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
doctorjazz:

LD, you're worse than I am, I'd guess, but I'm pretty bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
Little Danny:

b/p! Totally. It was avant-garde in its day, and totally timeless sounding as the decades wear on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Little Danny:

@doctor: I paid like $60 for the Brown/Roach. "Affordable"

p.s. I am not by any stretch of the imagination wealthy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
doctorjazz:

It's not terrible, I guess (compared to what things go for)...hey, "new" releases of records on vinyl are generally $35-50.
