Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from October 31, 2014 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I remember reading about the Skyhooks from Australia. At their gigs were large cardboard penises that shot confetti. Some of their songs were banned on Australia radio, and for some reason they were invited to play on a children's show, on which they played one of their banned songs.

Uncle Monster, here's a great record that might work on your show today. 'That Creature' by The Sweet Acids from the Pebbles Vol. 22 LP and 'The Essential Pebbles Collection Vol. 2' CD.

And now the Monegasques!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm

Steve, that was a song that was in the pile but didn't make it into the final cut. I had way too much stuff!

It's been raining all week, here, with more on the way for tonight; the only appropriate Halloween costume is that rainslicker worm by the midget killer in Don't Look Now.

Got one of those IT bullshit calls today regarding "your computer." Regretted afterward I didn't say, "What?! Virus?! Infection!? On Halloween? Aaaaaiiieeee...that's fuckin' scaaaary, ohhh, scaaaary!!!!" and then keep it up to see if he'd bail.

With some folks, costumes mean just another day. For anyone interested, Sun Ra Arkestra did a live Tiny Desk thing today at NPR. Didn't watch/listen, but it's archived.

I forgot to listen closely enough to say if Lou mentions beatniks in this version -- guessing he didn't.

Bats remind me:
A few weeks ago, there was a Facebook post from my sister, telling that their cat had brought a live bat into the house to chase around and play with. This cat hunts other creatures too, giving the squirrels to the dog, but keeping the snakes for herself.
