Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from July 11, 2014 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

The venue is pretty cool. I heard Brotzmann and Nilssen-Love there a few months ago. The restaurant is abuzz at the street level, and the tiny performance space is upstairs, but not fully enclosed. I can't imagine what the diners will think of ROVA blasting out from above.

Mr Whitfield apparently worked the counter at my favorite local record store during my formative years. I was oblivious.

Apologies if I've already rolled out this "story."

Ah, route 1. Always a road too far, for me. The other formative place was Newbury Comics, predictably enough, the one down Mass Ave.

Providence was a record-shop-lover's dream back then, too.
