i can't relate.
- and now i remember in my teens and early 20s, hanging with friends... most of them always wanted to hear an album they already knew.
the way i see it, they wrecked their own adventure.

like: i've never tasted taylor ham, and i never will! (for instants)
but i did listen to a styx album within the past year, after writing it off as complete and utter crap several decades ago. because i know i've changed, opened.
(my former opinion stands)

You tried the Styx but not the Taylor Ham. But - perhaps other Foods you tried - & other Musics that, you won't.
One difference ?: Wynton Marsalis I think posited that - you can close your eyes ...but not your ears. Music has a Territorial aspect like this. As Jaques Attali was all about...

as with colours, anything besides the 3 primary is a combination of them, with lightness and darkness added. flavours have 5, + textural and psychological senses.

but, one point at least, is that no, not all consume music. in fact people are less and less passionate about music since the 80s -when music began it's descent into formulaic crap.
zoomers are much much less likely to be passionate about music, aside from the poseur aspect of it, than teenagers were in the 60s and 70s.

Haven’t been able to chat or listen in a focused way (as is my want !) … running errands & such today.
Yet did catch y’all hosted The Warriors at Epsilom spires ! - so freakin’ cool ! One of my fave culty films - recall as a youth, all the controversies surrounding its release. Finally saw in maybe 1981 in an Arthouse theatre during my CT years.
Ps: I gotta get signed-on to & for your emails newsletters !!!! As well finally ask y’all some e-mail questions. I’m technically challenged. Yikes. Love it, anyway. Pps : love that y’all mix in so much German krautrock varieties. And French ! (& international musics). 👏🙌🫶

Thanks for tuning in and saying hello.
coelacanth∅:
but, just as many people choose to eat foods that are not nourishing, many people don't consume music... the former still has to eat *something*, but the latter does not.
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
It's not meant to be an exact diagrammatic correspondence of an analogy or anything... It's a hard sell to me that there are Humans who don't Consume Music whatsoever ...there are Soundtracks & Commercials & Event Themes & Anthems & Rituals ...things Hal Wilner called 'Subconscious Music'. Even if there are notable demographics that would profess otherwise. I would note otherwise that, say, the Worse conditions get for Humans, the *more* they rely on Musics & Arts to sustain them (War, Sea Voyages, Incarcerations...) Whereas our Society generally considers Arts & Musics to be 'extra' privileges. I, of course, am an Enemy of this notion...
