With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

Speaking of 1987, Jay Kantor's novel "Krazy Kat", based on the comic, includes the lyric, "You got a Zippo lighter, you got the dollar brand / but if you can't light my cigarettes, you can't be my man." As a result, I've long assumed that the name Dollar Brand derived from Zippo lighters somehow, but my googling doesn't back it up.
doctorjazz:
Ibrahim's music is so rooted in the 3 chord music of his native South Africa, usually simple harmonically, but he gets such riches out of it.
