Moon Goose | South Popular Guy | The Wax Monster Lives Behind the First Row of Trees | Fruits de Mer Records | 2020 | WAV | Welsh band from Hay On Wye hone in on the Deep American South. Now my favourite story to song, in the vein of VU's 'The Gift', but far, far different... From their Bandcamp... "The Wax Monster Lives Behind the First Rows of Trees occupies a liminal space: between EP and album, between Iowa and Hanoi, between druid and mushroom, between life before COVID and life after it." https://moongoosecult.bandcamp.com/ | 0:00:00 (Pop-up)

"In February 2021, Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist Robin Hatch was informed of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to record on the famed T.O.N.T.O synthesizer at the National Music Gallery in Calgary. With only 4 days in the studio to record, Hatch emerged with a halting masterwork that shares a name with it’s progenitor: T.O.N.T.O." |

The Bug Club | If My Mother Thinks I'm Happy | Pure Particles | Bingo Records | 2021 | Finally! The full length album is out. This fun band also penned the catchy tune "The Fixer" which we've featured before. Great lyrics and vibes from this band out of Wales. | * | 0:21:06 (Pop-up)
Good Sad Happy Bad | Blessed | Shades | Textile Records | 2020 | Mica Levi’s band, formerly known as Micachu and the Shapes...who were also great..which is why this is great! | 0:25:19 (Pop-up)
Geese | Rain Dance | Projector | Partisan Records/PIAS | 2021 | I thought this band was perhaps a new project by Tom Vek because it sure as shit sounds like him on vocals...but it is not. It is a fellow from Brooklyn. Because this band is from Brooklyn. | * | 0:28:53 (Pop-up)
Mandy, Indiana | Bottle Episode | Bottle Episode Single | Fire Talk | 2021 | Omg this tune rocks so hard. Hits all the sweet notes of electronic/noise/linear punk/loud/soft/louds abound...swirling instrumental shrieks and a French Woman delivering authoritative vocals. This band is the shit. | * | 0:32:17 (Pop-up)

"A conscious attempt to exorcise deep seated baggage, T.O.N.T.O. was a self-imposed challenge to sit and ruminate on awful feelings and meditate on their place in ourselves. As a composer, Robin’s mission is to transmute painful ugly experiences like psychosis, post-traumatic stress, delusion, and hallucinating voices, into Lovecraftian minimalist electronica. The results speak volumes without uttering a word, creating a living landscape within which we find the capacity to confront and sit with the deepest roots of ourselves. Rhythmic waves of synths create movement in our pathways creating neural sensations to challenge our perceptions of ourselves. At times frantic and arresting and others in pleasing comfort, T.O.N.T.O. is an honest and raw interpretation of the id within us all." |

Pixx | Peanuts Grow Underground | Small Mercies | 4AD | 2019 | Pixx is my new obsession. She is 25. She thinks of deep concepts of love and devotion...from the singular self to the universe. It is moody syntbpop, sometimes with guitars...it is elegant and smart and retro and now. Pixx is....your secret cool new favourite artist. | 1:11:31 (Pop-up)

Senay | Cirozname | Honki Ponki | Odeon Müzik Yapımcılık | 1980 | Şenay Ekiz was born in İstanbul in 1951. In 1971, she married Şerif Yüzbaşıoğlu, a musician. She is most famous for her song "Honki Ponki"....which is actually a protest song. She also entered Eurovision twice...but never won and that is a crime. She passed away in 2013. | 1:18:14 (Pop-up)
Warmduscher | Wild Flowers | Wild Flowers Single | Bella Union | 2021 | This relatively recent Warmduscher single is everything you expect from a band called Warmduscher...it's crass, loud, obnoxious, filthy but yet...somehow still very fun. | * | 1:22:15 (Pop-up)

Dark Bird | Stranger | Out of Line | Cardinal Fuzz | 2021 | WAV | https://darkbird.bandcamp.com/album/out-of-line -- Feat. Michelle Breslin Backing Vocals and Guitar -- From the BC page: "I started the Dark Bird project back in 2006 with the debut album Long Gone. I had a live band with Olde Nightrifter (Eiyn Sof), Tim Whitley, and Stephen Keeping (Squirrel, Sadoceanspacebear). Life got busy with a growing family, and although we hit the ground running with a handful of appearances at the Tranzac club in Toronto, among other venues (2006/2007), Dark Bird has remained my home recording project and has had many faces over the years." | 1:36:53 (Pop-up)
The Black Angels | Manipulation | Passover | Light In The Attic | 2006 | CD | This song made me buy a Star Sitar Guitar, a Guitar/Sitar hybrid. The fact that the band credits include Jennifer Raines playing the Drone Machine makes me happy. Every band should have a "Drone Machine" player. | 1:40:31 (Pop-up)

The European | The Settler | In A Very Real Sense Now | Stolen Recordings | 2010 | The European aka Simon Break makes his third appearance here on Echo Beach. Babs is still obsessed with this one-ish album wonder...never to be heard of or seen again in his melancholic form. After an absence of sorts for almost a decade, it seems, he has gone from writing heart wrenching life changing synthpop to releasing minimal techno/deep house grooves. Latest release is "Police Helicopter" on Bandcamp, | 1:51:05 (Pop-up)
Vendredi Sur Mer | Les filles desir | Premiers Émois | Profil De Face | 2019 | From her native Switzerland to the Trianon stage in Paris, Charline Mignot, better known as Vendredi sur Mer, has conquered many listeners with her soft, exquisite tales of female desire and late-night melancholy. Her wistful whispers, along with her sensual, theatrical videos have contributed to a new brand of French music, which sounds unique and is almost impossible to define. | 1:53:56 (Pop-up)
