Someone's Rockin My Dreamboat is another cartoon song that I had never heard in its entirety until I heard the Jackie Paris version around year 2000

For me, it is Duke's crashing chords at the beginning of the song that identify it for me. Few jazz groups would use that kind of dissonance. And I did buy mine at Tower!

Little Red Riding Hood was designed by Hank Ketcham, which is why she kinda looks like Margaret from Dennis The Menace.

I guess a big part of Blanton's historical importance was that signficant jazz bassists before him were coming from the tuba (second lines and all that), but he was coming from the violin, so he had real string player chops, especially with a bow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am
Doug Schulkind:

Preach, bobdc, preach! No one had much explored the bass beyond mere time-keeping before Blanton.

I've been Facetiming the every night the last week w/ my friend who is storing my records. We've gone through half. I'm getting rid of 90% of them. We're trying to avoid Discogs if possible. Trying to do a portal live for some of them. We'll probably have them cataloged by next week. If anyone has any suggestions for a decent platform, I'd be welcome to them.

A girl in college once borrowed my Miles Davis Live at the Plaza LP (which features a version of "My Funny Valentine") and she never returned it. It makes me steaming mad to this day and I can't listen to My Funny Valentine and not think of it.

Fuuuuck! I'm so mad!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am

My Funny Valentine as my father's favorite ballad. One year for his birthday, I made him a mixtape of many different versions. This was prior to 2011, so this Arthur Doyle performance wasn't included.
