I went into One Stop Records in South Molton Street in London in 1972, it specialised in imports. I asked about a new release by an American singer. Then this voice behind me spoke up and told me that it was coming out soon and produced by Elton John. I turned round and this fella with a Chuck Berry and T Rex records under his arm and wearing ballet pumps was speaking; much to my surprise was Marc Bolan himself. I was cool, said thanks and carried on looking at records. When I told my wife many years later she did not and probably still does not believe me.
