Mr. Pumpy, last night after that bit of candor, I was thinking about laying in my yet to be new girl friends bed thinking about what kind of mess I had made for myself while I stared at a yellow thumb tack stuck in the wall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
Mr. Pumpy:

Yeah, I kept waiting for the bass to kick in as if it was a studio thang done for effect, but there is some low end missing here. I'm sure Therese is aware and/or on it.

you need advice on seasoning the pan? feel like you put oil on it and put it in th oven on a low heat but Ive never done it...
Avatar 5:36pm
Therese:

Thanks, @johnzo. I've got to get the surface rust off before I can think about re-seasoning the pan...
  5:36pm
wendy del formaggio:

Therese: wash pan with soapy water, rinse well, dry well (in the oven is best). When it’s cool, scrub the fuck outta the pan with double-zero steel wool and soy or canola oil or rendered bacon grease if ya got it. Don’t use olive oil, too unstable. When rust is gone, rinse, dry again. Heat over high on the stovetop and rub the inside with more oil / bacon fat and paper towels til it’s coated. Keep rubbing w fresh paper towels til oil sheen is gone. Use tongs so you don’t burn your hands.
  5:37pm
MelindafromAustin:

To restore cast iron : soak in a lye solution using powdered lye & water. Cover in durable plastic container with a lid. Submerge for a week & a half. Change solution and let soak longer if needed. Next: scrub with hard wire. Then clean thoroughly before seasoning to full restoration.

Andrew, When Chresti was in the same building as Bong Load, one of the guys who worked there gave me a single - Steve Threw Up, where Beck itemizes every thing that was vomited off a ride at the fun fair after to much LSD. To this day, my favorite song by Beck.

cast iron pan:
1. put it in a self cleaning oven cycle
2. sandblasting is quicker and you start with an as new pan

I worked at a vintage cooking store & this is how we restored severely damaged antique cast iron to new.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm

Franco, I was thinking about how nice it was that you shared those stories and how cool it was you felt comfortable sharing with us. A couple of special shows last night!

Mr. P, it felt weird to have nothing to do. I was so exhausted, though, that it was maybe for the best? I got some reading done in a new RPG book I am really excited for. Watched a little TV. Stared at the dog.
Avatar 5:40pm

@Melinda, I will try Wendy and Sketch's suggestions before I move on to lye. I'm kind of clumsy and tend to spill things...

Wonderful show as always Therese! But Are there technical issues today? Every other song sounds extremely tinny.

This is a solid advice on restoring cast iron. But you really should be looking for carbon steel when walking the streets. Carbon steel is the new cast iron https://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-restore-a-rusty-cast-iron-skillet-cleaning-lessons-from-the-kitchn-203086

It's weird, it's as if their is a gate on the signal, and a certain dB level or frequency level cuts the bass frequencies. Something is going on, Therese. Not really a big deal...the show is rolling.

I just looked up Jensen Beach, which was referred to by the other station at 5:30 coming in here on 90.1, and it's near Port St. Lucie, Fla. I used to get off on IDing DX like that during sporadic E skip conditions like around the solstice.

I've been to Jensen Beach many times over the years. My Grandmother lived in Stuart, FL in the Port St. Lucie area from the 80s until she passed about 15 years back. The name of the beach always struck me because I thought of Jensen speakers every time I heard it.

I don't think Ron was ever in too many of the liner notes but he knew all them boys and loved playing with them every chance he got!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm
Mr. Pumpy:

Therese, my analysis earlier now seems off. It is not a frequency gate, so much as a scoop. It's odd; as if a certain range is scooped out. These are things I've achieved when messing around with my mixers and/or effects intentionally...and that's what it sounds like right now. It's there, but hollowed out. Still, ain't no thang, I'm just trying to help give you info from this side. Rock on!

Put salad oil, about a tbs spoon or two, rub the pan well with it, inside and out, if you need to use something abrasive like steel wool, that would be ok. Wipe out with a clean cloth until dry, put on heat after rubbing pan again with about a tbs spoon of salad oil, cook on low flame for 10 or 20 minutes, oralternatively, put in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes, and it should be as good as new!

Saving Private Cast Iron [next from Steven Spielberg] Depending on what the pan is coated with [oxidized grease v/ plain oxidized water aka rust] you may start with vinegar and baking soda, liquefied by pouring in boiling water. Execute this step with the pan placed in a sink or tub as it may bubble up and over. Then mechanically remove grease sludge w/stainless steel version of steel wool pad and liquid detergent. Next, to remove all cleaning residue, place pan on stove and fill w/water and heat to boiling. If crud persists, repeat this step. ALL water must be boiled off prior to final step which is seasoning the pan. When pan has cooled, brush vegetable oil over inside and outside surfaces and dry excess oil w/paper towel. This pan will now outlive you and your descendants. Was introduced to the swinging swirling world of cast iron when we purchased our first skillet in 1973 at a NJ Thrift Store [now known as Consignment Shops] for the munificent sum of TEN CENTS [pan remains in use as of this moment in time]. Next up: Capellini with olive oil & garlic sauteed with panache in Therese's skillet. Bellisima! Pasquale FMU sustaining member. Thank you for your work.
