@PMD: I hate that song so much.

My sisters ex-husband (who is thankfully dead now) used to drive around smoking a joint and when I was in the front seat he would exhale and say, “You know this song makes me think about your family… And how great this country is for people like you…”

Yeah… “Great…” He abused his kids and his wife, and would go on extended rants about “black people” and equate public service jobs as “they are servants; they have no right to speak” but he’s grateful that some pop song shouts “America.”

@JakeGould: I saw Neil's Jazz Singer in college. It was shown for free in the center lounge. I watched the whole thing and was amazed at how weird it was. Having Neil act with Laurence Olivier is extremely bizarre. It's not repulsive. It borders on unintentional humor.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
Mike Sin:

@JakeGould -- Ha! The movie is too unintentionally comic! Yes, Neil has trouble with the acting and all, but the big surprise is... just how subpar Laurence Olivier is in this... Dunno if the direction was lacking, but I think he tried to make up for everything by overacting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
Krys O.:

I'd rather watch SCTV's Jerry Lewis on the Champs d'Elysee.
  1:02pm

Jazz Singer -- This movie is full of eye-popping moments like that. Neil also beats up Ernie Hudson who is twice his size. There's also a hint near the end that Neil gives a truck driver a sexual favor. Super subtle, but clearly intentional.

No, I think 'geeky' was for what Pseu was aiming when trying to describe WFMU. I think 'geek' is of course fine for biter-off of chickens' heads, and for the sort of enthusiast who doesn't care about looking cool or anyone else much's approval, but not (e.g.) for someone who sits at a desk and codes JavaScript just because that's their job.

I was part of a group that was interviewing people for a rebuild of a site and we interviewed these CMS coders that used one specific CMS and they bragged about how they “recreated” Twitter in one weekend.
