  10:08am
JakeGould:

Hope this doesn’t embarrass Duane, but found this interview with quote that encapsulates it all, “It probably just comes with my namesake. Music was always a huge part of my growing up experience. My father is from Kingston Jamaica and my Mother was from Louisiana. My mother played piano, my Father is a percussionist and choir director. My Sis is a pretty accomplished Gospel and Jazz pianist and singer. My uncle Derrick is a legendary Reggae producer and my Uncle Chester is a world renowned Cabaret performer in the UK. My Father collected a ton of records and there was a lot eclectic music played in the house everything from Bob Marley and Steely Dan, to Andrae Crouch and Vivaldi.I studied the Violin and Trombone from age 5 -16 years old and picked up my music theory there. I also got involved with Deejaying at an early age. I had a radio show on a local community radio station in Lincoln, Nebraska when i was 14 years old and that continued in College. I guess what i'm trying to say is that I was blessed to have a family that exposed me to music at an early age and encouraged me to appreciate all aspects of music to some extent.” discosrevengedallas.blogspot.com...

not to be a negative Nancy but I wish wfmu could have some real dancehall djays doing real reggae mixes. Jeff Sarge was cool and his historical knowledge is great. and no offense Meghan but reggae is meant to be played a certain way.

@agav:WFMU DJs' do their own thing,on their own shows(even fill ins),as far as I remember Jeffs' show was not much dancehall at all, more of a christian reggae to these ears.

Morph, I had a student who worked at Applebee’s every night, and ATE Applebee’s every night resulting in super smelly flatulence. Windowless computer lab! Bad combination. His name was also Michel Jackson!

JakeGould:

@Handy: Ha! For some reason that is the one “brand” that all the small pharmacies I have been in carry. Then there are the bootleg brands corner stores carry. But the best consistent source I found in Brooklyn are DII discount stores — there is one on Manhattan Avenue — and they carry either weird Turkish brands of cleaner or “Wish” brand hand sanitzer. Prices are very reasonable and they enforce social distancing and mask wearing in their stores.

Speaking of smells, I had a 2 week period of actually eating bagels with cream cheese every day for breakfast. I stopped when I realized my breath when on a diet of that smells so fetid.

Yeah, DII is a solid place.

JakeGould:

DII carries Turkish Windex which is just Windex but when you look at the characters in the Turkish text it’s as if you are losing your mind and language is destroyed.

Thanks for the great show today Meghan! Be well!

Oh, and if you somehow stumble across “GelRite” avoid it like the plague. They put vitamin E on it so you get this disgusting residue on your hands.

The local Bravo supermarket on Dekalb Ave. has a surprising variety of sanitizers. They also have Tide bars that are not for sale in the U.S....

And “Perfect Purity” is the one that smells like Jean Nate.
