@duke: Insurance companies have been pushing hard for the acceptance of SARS-Cov-2 instead of Covid-19, because the "SARS" part allows them to deny coverage for canceled events (they usually have escape hatches for resurgence of SARS in their contracts), which leaves venues out to dry (insurance companies make money out of your will to live, as long as you don't keep it)

It looks to me it's am ADC-that is, it takes an analog signal and digitizes it (the opposite off a DAC, which brings a digital signal back into the analog world-makes sound out of it). It's also got headphone output, some interfacing ability, cool! (I have some similar gear, that I rarely use).
Avatar 🥁 10:15am

Jeff wouldn't be using a DAC on the stream, though, would he? Presumably the original is digital and so is the stream. (I know nothing of this.)

That's a Tascam DR-05. From what I understand, the converter is just a chip (you likely have one in your phone). Missy often, it is paired with other chips, an amplifier, to give more functionality. "It is difficult to determine exactly when the first data converter was made or what form it took. The earliest recorded binary DAC known to the authors of this book is not electronic at all, but hydraulic. Turkey, under the Ottoman Empire, had problems with its public water supply, and sophisticated systems were built to meter water. One of these...dates to the 18th Century. An example of an actual dam using this metering system was the Mahmud II dam built in the early 19th century near Istanbul..."

@LG sage words. Funny that the keyboard is named Dvorzak, must be a story there. Funny because presumably the arrangement of letters takes specific languages in mind? But maybe all Romance languages are similar enough? (Don’t think Czech is a Romance language but I don’t know?) Where’s other Jeff?
