- by industry standards, "just decent"!
...low-budget-good; amateur-decent"...
a zoom h4n www.zoom-na.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
coelacanth∅:

i love it. it picks up things i cannot hear. (and my hearing is still in good shape) super easy to use, once you learn how.
i still don't know how to use the majority of it's functions, as i've never thought i needed to use them.
one thing it can do is record in 4-channel multitrack (all at once) i might learn to use that feature.
Avatar 3:50pm
Erica:

Just heard the original version yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm
Funky16Corners:

The Len Barry? One of my faves!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm
Phillippe Bastille:

That looks pretty cool. My youngest (20) has been getting into wildlife photography, and I think he'd get into capturing sounds as well. We're about 4 good rock tosses from the Chesapeake Bay, so there are a lot of birds around. We're also right next to a little community park on our cove, so it get pretty chatty in the backyard.
Avatar 3:54pm
Erica:

Yup Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
Phillippe Bastille:

I came across a 4 channel TASCAM analog recorder a few months back in a thrift store that I picked up for a musician friend of my son's who never claimed it. Looks like it would be fun for a Daniel Johnston type.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm

Phillippe @3.52, 3.56 i could only encourage him. i bought mine when i'd decided i've wasted too much time not doing what i love -read about the h4n, could afford it and bought it; but now you can get that same one for 1/2 what i paid - and there are other comparable ones, like the tascam...

that tascam you got -cassette?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm
Funky16Corners:

@Doc - Yes indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
Phillippe Bastille:

yep. No cables or adapter so I'm not sure it even works. looks mint though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
coelacanth∅:

damn, i just missed "i want you". i'm supposing it's the beatles song -which i just was told last week by my mostly crap-liking niece was 1 of her 2 favorite beatles songs. that's good news!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
Funky16Corners:

@C - No, Tony Joe White song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm
coelacanth∅:

oh - i was thinking it could've been the Dylan song too, though i doubted it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
Funky16Corners:

This is a side-long medley from Tami Lynn's 1972 album. An absolute work of art IMHO. Songs by Loretta Lynn, the Supremes, Betty Harris and the Patterson Singers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm
coelacanth∅:

Phillippe you could probably find the a/c adapter on ebay for not much. people throw those things out every minute.
...i might even have one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm
Funky16Corners:

There's a big market in adapters/cables for older hardware. I had to find a charger for an ancient MP3 player and found it on Amazon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
coelacanth∅:

i have a 1/2 dozen un-spoken-for adapters at home and my sister's got a drawer full of 'em. the biggest challenge will probably be finding the right shape input.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
Phillippe Bastille:

We used to have a pretty decent sized box of adapters without things to adapt to, but we tossed it when we downsized. The next owner will be on their own to find one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm
coelacanth∅:

yeah my sister will probably throw all hers out soon, as she's getting a divorce and selling the house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
Funky16Corners:

The last time I re-did my computer/broadcast set up, I found an AC adapter on the floor and could not figure out what it had been plugged into. Maybe a USB hub? Maybe an old external hard drive? It remains a mystery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
coelacanth∅:

i can't help but think this Tami Lynn suite was inspired by Isaac Hayes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
Phillippe Bastille:

Hmm, don't let her do anything rash. Extra adapters in a kitchen drawer can be a selling point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
Funky16Corners:

@C - Not out of the question. He was working that vibe heavily at the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@Larry We have three sons eight years apart in age. Pretty darn sure about 60% of the unclaimed chargers went to some sort of R/C car. No two were the same.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
Sem:

Just a killing show this afternoon. So happy to have been along to hear it all. Thanks, Larry. Hope to see you and all next time round the track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm

Thanks, Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm

Avatar 4:50pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
Funky16Corners:

Thanks Sem! Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
doctorjazz:

I second Phillippe...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
Funky16Corners:

@Erica - Yes, this is the closer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
coelacanth∅:

she's got a house full of stuff, and an adapter has to match power specs as well as plug shape...i've had to buy 2 adapters over the past 5 years despite all these here for the taking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
Funky16Corners:

When I first bought this record, I edited the suite down into individual songs, but you really need to hear the whole thing together
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
Funky16Corners:

@Phillippe - My sons are 13 and 16, Out house is similarly afflicted with stray cords
Avatar 4:52pm
Erica:

And it starts soft and goes out with a bang.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
Funky16Corners:

@Erica - Yes, and the rest of the album is weirdly assembled, an old track from 1965, and some stuff by another producer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm
Phillippe Bastille:

@coelacanth my bride found an adapter kit a few years back that let you change the plug size and shape, but you still needed to match voltage. Of course, we lost that after the kids discovered it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm

sounds like a handy device though, if you can change output and hz...i bought one many years ago to use with 2-3 different devices; but mainly for a very high-end "walkman"
