In the early 1980s I was into Howard Stern on 66 WABC in NYC. Imus was on too. Utterly nobody I knew in JHS liked Imus. Only one person: A classmate that was a very 1980s proto hipster named Anne.

Wore a denim jacket filled with patches. She would yell at us about how she met Don Imus once and then would get all hyper and spastic and then would have to be taken to the school nurse.

I miss Anne. I don’t miss Imus.

I was really into Scottish folk music, and my grandfather was a big music nerd like me, so he made me a mixtape, the best part of which was a 1974 Nat'l Geographic album, most of it field rather than studio recording, called The Music of Scotland. Has some great stuff. Not too many bagpipes on that album, however, though Grandpa did put a good bit of that on there as well.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm

@Hubig I don't know if he specialized that far. I know there were a lot of albums marketed as "bagpipe music" in his collection. I always just assumed it all was categorized as 'torture tools".
  10:11pm
JakeGould:

I think the first 4AD cover I ever saw was the Cocteau Twins “Garlands” at Record Runner on Jones Street in the West Village. Wanted to buy it, but it was a pricey import CD. But what a weird, bleak and intriguing cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
ultradamno:

@mariano Yeah, that's the stuff. Lot of covers with gangs of dudes in kilts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm

Mr. Pumpy:

Hello Dan, hello all! I've been in hospital for the better part of a week with me dad who suffered a stroke. What a range of emotions and a cause for exhaustion. I just settled in after the final correspondence for the night...and I get some SWANS! Just what the doctor ordered. Thanks, Dan!

@MrPumpy: I literally know that feeling. Spent a lot of time with my mom and dad bedside early in life. Be strong and don’t take care of yourself.

My heart goes out to all of you that know this type of situation. It's horrible.

Mr. Pumpy:

@Jake & mariano...It's one those things wherein sleep is the only escape, yet I wake up and soon remember, while still in bed, and quickly get that nauseous feeling. I should say sleep is mostly an escape, but last night I dreamt about being there in the hospital room. Such is life...I guess. Again...these words of support from Dan and some listeners are not taken for granted...and I thank you.

@Mr Pumpy: It's a lot like a physical injury, and it requires rest and downtime to get better. Family and friends were really great with me, always there but always giving me my space as well. Let the people in your life hold you up.

Good night, @TDK60.
