...she did write 2 good songs though, in the course of her career.
...and she was indeed a great harmony vocal for Balin's great voice.

She was an atypical (for then) deep female voice - & more abstract & Psych. Quite original & influential.

Last time I saw Jefferson Airplane on television they had Cathy Richardson singing lead vocals. She's not bad, but can't compare to Grace in her best days.

I was never a huge Airplane fan, though I didn't particularly dislike them either. It's just that all I ever heard on classic rock radio was White Rabbit and Somebody to Love. Then a few years back Netflix had a documentary on them, with lots of live footage, and I was blown away, have to say. It led to a deep dive into the rabbit hole of their discography. Have had a lot of respect for them since.

Always preferred the original version of "You Cheated" by The Slades, but the Shields version is good also.

Amen to that, Rabbit. Was unfortunately all I had during my teenage years in the Bible Belt. Well, until thankfully Night Flight came along on USA, that was a real lifeline.

i always did and still do love the 'airplane just consider Grace extremely overrated and a lot of that attention simply because she was an openly sexual female in a male-dominated world.
i think she really wasn't a good singer. (nothing to do with her register!) and a bit of an arrogant person...
she sang harmonies well and her voice was good for that; but her almost bellowing singing when she sang lead doesn't do it for me.

The J. A. were an impressive live band with stage presence who fronted a wild, psychedelic light show. I saw them 3x, 70-71.
