"Come Up And See Me.." is a fave song of mine. Duran Duran also do a great live version of this. Great to hear you on WFMU Ira! I must say Yo La Tengo's "Big Day Coming" is also a fave tune of mine:)

I played Make Me Smile at a Mergefest a bunch of years ago, as part of the had-to-be-seen-to-believe Double Dynamite.

Very fun show, Ira. Until you played that last one (just kidding). Great show. Thanks.

Oh that's right Joey. I had a lot of Chipmunks' records when I was a wee girl. Dad would cur up a stack of them on my record player at bedtime and they'd play as I fell asleep.

D'uh I meant to say cue not cur!

Hey Joey, I lived in Philly the summer I was 19. I shared a house with some Penn students, scooped ice cream at Hilary's on South Street and listened to a lot of WKDU and WXPN as i read lots of books:)
  10:15pm
BH:

Del Shannon singing "Under My Thumb" like it's the unofficial sequel to "Runaway"
  10:16pm
Joeybug69:

I’ve been to Hillary’s! I was just on Penn’s campus today. That NRBQ gig was at the Chestnut Cabaret! And WKDU is still a fave. XPN is pretty formulaic at this point since it is no longer student run.
  10:17pm
Joeybug69:

Fun fact: my first ever YLT show was at Penn’s Museum of Archeology & Anthropology auditorium!
Avatar 10:23pm
RobinSays:

Oh cool. When I lived in Philly I didn't go to many shows because I was underage. I did go to a 4AD Records party at Revival -- the club t hat used to be a bank. I also had every intention to go see Half Japanese playing in a Drexel parking garage but I spent so much time getting dressed/doing my hair and makeup that by the tie I got there Jad Fair and co. were playing their last song:(

Sittin' On My Sofa is a great title for a rock song.

I don't believe I ever saw the Plasmatics. Was intrigued by how large a role they played in Mickey Leigh's I Slept With Joey Ramone.

Oh, I have to read that book now--thanx for the tip. I emailed Mickey some weeks ago but never heard back. Is there anyone else you recommend I contact? If this is too much to ask you to do during the course of your show my email is rleisgrau@gmail.com

Avatar 11:43pm

Hi Gaylord! Like I mentioned to Ira earlier in the comments, I'm under contract to write a biography of Wendy O. Williams. Did you ever cross paths with her or know anyone who did who I could contact?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
Gaylord Fields:

Robin, if I put some thought into it, perhaps I can think of someone who could help. All I can recall personally was that in the dressing room at the Mudd Club, I believe it was, someone defaced graffiti of the band's name so that it now read as "Blasmatios"! I hope you can use that — maybe even as the book title. :)
Avatar 11:48pm
TheLoneliestMonk:

i just assumed gaylord lived at the station 24/7, and his downtime was simply lounging around in a bathrobe and slippers waiting to get back on the air...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
Gaylord Fields:

@TheLoneliestMonk: That's silly. I'm barely there at all.
Avatar 11:49pm
RobinSays:

You know, I just might use that. Does Blasmatios mean anything? Anyhoozle, please email me if you think of anyone. Hugs to you and the Missus:)
Avatar 11:50pm
Clyde:

Gaylord was sighted recently DJing in Brooklyn and his set was so wild the police almost shut the whole bar down!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
Gaylord Fields:

It's likely just someone changing the band's name to make it even sillier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Clyde: OK, that is kinda true. Only in Bushwick do cops enforce repealed cabaret laws.
Avatar 11:52pm
RobinSays:

In one of my interviews with Richie Stotts he told me about how he went to the Mudd Club one night with his blue Mohawk hair do and Frank Zappa was there. Shortly thereafter there was a song on a Zappa album called "Mudd Club" mentioning a guy with a blue Mohawk.
