Greetings from Wisconsin, where we know a little about intoxication!

I was wondering what this theme was about. I'm guessing it's about getting drunk.

*for songs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
Funky16Corners:

@Erica - drunk, high, high on love etc. Intoxication, literal and figurative
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm

Smoking too Larry?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Funky16Corners:

Oddly, no. I'll keep that in mind for volume 2

Dean:

Am I the only person who suspects that the effect of cannabis is placebo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm
Franco Twinkie:

Are you serious?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm
Funky16Corners:

I think you might be.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm
Funky16Corners:

Didja ever think you'd hear Bo Diddley sing about LSD?
Avatar 10:12pm
Erica:

No but I heard that Chubby Checker got stoned in the bathroom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
Franco Twinkie:

In your bathroom?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
coelacanth∅:

well, i got through what will likely be a significant % of my life without suspecting Fats Domino would sing about heroin...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm

I was just thinking about that Ink Spots'song

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
Franco Twinkie:

Dean, when was the last time you smoked weed?
  10:16pm
Dean:

More than forty years ago. Never amounted to anything. Besides, I don't enjoy inhaling smoke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Funky16Corners:

I haven't smoked in YEARS (maybe decades?) but I remember it being quite potent.
Avatar 10:17pm
Erica:

Seriously Larry, will you consider adding "Stoned in the Bathroom" in the show?
Avatar 10:17pm
Erica:

If not this episode, a follow up of it?
  10:17pm
Dean:

Once, I seem to recall we did angel dust, which isn't marijuana, of course. Even then, no effect.

Just a hypothesis. Would love to test it rigorously.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Funky16Corners:

I don't have it on hand, but I will get it for the future.
Avatar 10:18pm

Cool thanks Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
Funky16Corners:

No probs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Franco Twinkie:

Okay, That's fine, but as you know, today the stuff tends to be, well a little on the strong side.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
coelacanth∅:

there probably are in fact people who have a physiological block to the effects of certain, many or most mind-altering substances.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
chresti:

Are you one of the few that don't feel any effect from pot? Or maybe you had alfalfa instead@Dean
  10:20pm
Dean:

Yeah, but strong x zero = ???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I’m listening Larry but not feeling so great as of the last hour. Hope everyone else is doing well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Franco Twinkie:

Matt, was it something you ate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Could be. I was in the shower and got overheated and felt lightheaded. Not sure if what happened after was due to something I ate or not.
Avatar 10:25pm
Erica:

Thankfully I chose not to intoxicate myself, especially since my stomach couldn't handle it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm

Right@coel, they don't metabolize certain drugs, or have an antagonist in their system
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm

There is nothing like making an ass of yourself while totally plastered to make you check yourself while socializing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Matt, I hope you're ok.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
coelacanth∅:

Matt maybe some fresh lemon juice and water would help?
(or gatoraid; or best of all lemon-ginger-echinacea juice...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
Funky16Corners:

@Franco - It's the folks that don't realize they're making an ass out of themselves that you have to watch out for
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
Funky16Corners:

What C said. Lots of fluids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
Franco Twinkie:

Quite awhile ago I stopped getting high at parties because I could never accurately gauge the nuances of conversation. Back in the day, I would always wonder after the fact, if I had stepped over the line. Now I always know who was the guilty party.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
chresti:

The same only different @Larry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Funky16Corners:

My wife has definitely seen me drunk. Fortunately I am a happy drunk. As are my brothers, until you mess with is in a public setting, at which point we will be happy to take you outside (or at least we were when we were younger).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm

many times people have said i've never seen you drunk.
and i always laugh and say oh yes you have! ...sometimes oh yes you have, many times!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Jeff Ash:

As does this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm

Me, I say, you've never seen me straight!

Although I've always preferred Ike and Tina's version of this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm

It is a good one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm

Ike and Tina covered this?!

I think when my kids are grown and out on their own, when I'm in my late 60s, I may start to experiment with psychedelics again.

Erica:

Diggin' this Tremeloes song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
Jeff Ash:

@coelacanth It's on their "Come Together" LP from 1970. Also released as a single that year. Both on the Liberty label.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
Franco Twinkie:

I grew up next door to guys who were dealing heroin. When I saw kids I knew from school over there, I knew they were in trouble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
coelacanth∅:

the one rule i set for myself early on in my career as a professional celebrator is that i don't mix different substances. i like getting buzzed-drunk (but not hammered) and getting high but to do both i just get fucked up and i do not want that.
(i applied this as well when i occasionally did other things too, besides alcohol and herb)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm
coelacanth∅:

Thanks Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
coelacanth∅:

yeah Franco i know several people on the horse; and *did know* several more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
Funky16Corners:

I didn't get high until I was almost out of high school, but I made up for lost time over the next 5 or so years. I honestly don't have the energy for it anymore. I get a lift discovering new music, reading and cooking, so I guess, bury me now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm

Cool cover of Just Dropped In...!
Oh, and hi all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Funky16Corners:

That should say 15 (cough) years...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Jeff Ash:

Lots of fun covers of "Just Dropped In." Another good one is by Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
chresti:

that's a good rule, if I drink, it can't be mixed, and with cheeseballs@coel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Doc! This is not technically a cover, though it's not the first recording. This is the guy that wrote it, Mickey Newbury. Jerry Lee Lewis recorded it first, then the First Edition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
coelacanth∅:

for a few decades i smoked <twice/year; but now i smoke to get high maybe once/month. and every night when i'm home, but not enough to get high...just to help sleep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Funky16Corners:

@Jeff - That Sharon Jones cover of Just Dropped In is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Franco Twinkie:

Larry, this afternoon I went over to the place we use to live to pick figs. Afterwards I hung out with some former neighbors and discussed the possibility of tripping again. For me it kind of hard to say yes, no or maybe. Once Chresti and I were at a party in Topanga Canyon and this guy showed up with a bag of acid. He gave me a few hits, I put them in the freezer when I got home and then forgot all about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
coelacanth∅:

chresti, "cheeseballs"?!

...and i will go back on that to say if i ever smoked too much, (which would be very little for me) -which hasn't happened in a decade or 2, an alcoholic beverage would help bring me to earth again.
but never the other way 'round.

Franco i've done that! not with acid, but with some dark brown chunks of something. i'm not in touch with the person who i think gave it to me so i don't know what it is or what to do with it!

Smoke...too...much. You're right. Never noticed before.
Listened recently to a couple younger adults repeatedly getting deep deep into their shared affinity, quotes, trivia, etc, related to Sponge Bob episodes., and it occurred to me that in an earlier day for lots of guys, maybe girls, too, Python was a comparable well to keep going back to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Funky16Corners:

hey sbp!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
Funky16Corners:

Oddly enough, smoking cigarettes is one vice I never got into
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
Franco Twinkie:

A friend of mine makes hash. He figured if people who live in mud huts can do it, so could he!
  11:08pm
Dean:

I'd like to think that by now Monty Python has achieved transcendence, but perhaps it's still too early.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
coelacanth∅:

i was just going to say if i was told it's hash i would not have accepted it.
- nothing against hash or the effect of it, except the coughing and chest pain! i won't smoke it.
- it's got to be either cannabis or mushroom related though.

THC definitely affects different people differently...me, I get anxious, definitely has an effect, but not one I enjoy (interestingly, that wasn't the case at first, but after a while it was the regular response). Had to do with genetics and predispositions...I've known some to become schizophrenic, others who've smoked for 40 years and still enjoy it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm

I've been so high on placebos, I completely missed sponge pants.

True, you can even Gerry cannabinoids without THC.

CBD cuts down the anxiety from THC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm

(...get cannabinoids, that is...)
They seem to be of use for TREATING anxiety and depression (the non THC versions), some psychiatrists are recommending them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm

And there are companies selling CBD "straight", so to speak.

There's a well-established coffee multi-shop and roaster company around here called Coffee By Design, often self-and-popularly called CBD. So, yeah, they've got some complications and confusion these days. People calling for the wrong product. I believe they sued someone selling the oil products from another region for a commercial name that infringed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm

Do it, Larry. We'll compare notes.

The Man version of Codine is way over the top, but I like the cover of the album.

I like the Man version of "Codine" *because* of the cover.

...but you could play everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey by Fats!

Franco Twinkie:

This really resonated with me the first time I heard it in 1968. Next door they were shooting up. My mom squirt the hose over the fence at them while they were tying off. This voice came over the wall that said "Hey lady, don't water over here, we're working." We still say that and crack up!

And to think 1969 was an experimental year in rock.

Oooh, this makes me think of Kiri Te Kanawa doing Cole Porter's "Cocaine." Or the bit from Blazing Saddles.

Funky16Corners:

@C - He's a fan of the soul show I do. I only found out about his Mom way after the fact (last name's not Tucker)

1985, that was way past his matinee idol days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah, you can hear his false teeth in the way he sings, but he had gotten some of his trumpet chops back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
doctorjazz:

@Coel, isn't that Fats cover on Uncle Michael's premium?
  11:51pm
Dean:

Wow...in fact, Kiri might not have recorded "I Get a Kick..." I just felt like I'd heard it some time ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
Funky16Corners:

I'm not sure. I think I've played it here before.

Only quaffed/huffed second half of show, but even the shorter pour/puff had its effect and was glad to be under its influence. Thank you.
