I really don’t get why the Columbia period is looked down on. Lots of good stuff even if she was given better stuff to work with at Atlantic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
Funky16Corners:

Columbia was all over the place, with jazz, showtunes, gospel and soul (near the end). But then all Aretha is good Aretha

I thought Dy-na-Mite was by Jimmy Walker.
Avatar 10:28pm
Erica:

Don't you mean Dyn-O-Mite Doug?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
Funky16Corners:

@Doug - I can't believe Walker didn't record a 45 to capitalize on his fame. There is Dynomite by Tony Camillo's Bazuka
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm

This is the two stylish gents with the maraccas in the gif
  10:30pm
Doug Schulkind:

Yes of course , Erica. Thanks for the correction.
Avatar 10:30pm
Erica:

Would've been cool if Jimmy Walker did record, even a comedy record called Dynomite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm

If he'd come to fame in the 60s he would have been forced to by some enterprising record exec

Avatar 10:35pm

@JtotheK Now THAT IS Dynomite! Wish one of the tracks was called that though.
Avatar 10:36pm
Erica:

And it was released by our good friends at Buddah records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
Matt from New Orleans:

One of the LP listings is for $50 and I got apoplectic but then clicked on the other LP listing and it was $1.23 which seemed more in line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah, I can't imagine a world where the sophisticated comedy of Jimmy JJ Walker is going for more than a few bucks
Avatar 10:40pm
Erica:

"Boys" is one of my favorite Shirelles songs. Surprised it was released in 1960, when the decade just begun and rockabilly was still popular.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
JtotheK:

I spun this Betty mighty crowded 45 with my good friend Flavor Dave (RIP, miss ya, buddy) when we filled in for a friend's night, and he took a picture because the spot was getting ... mighty crowded, but alas i don't have the pic. *sigh*

When I was a kid I imagined Mohair Sam was a pink version of Cousin It, because my sister had a pink mohair sweater. It was my only reference point to mohair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Funky16Corners:

@Doc - I try to fit in as many of those as i can!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Funky16Corners:

@Franco - That was definitely a word that I knew for years before I had any idea what it meant
Avatar 11:14pm
Erica:

Mohair /ˈmoʊhɛər/ is usually a silk-like fabric or yarn made from the hair of the Angora goat (not to be confused with the Angora rabbit which produces Angora wool).
Avatar 11:14pm
Erica:

According to Wikipedia anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm

I think by the time I was a teen mohair was out of fashion

@Franco - I have indeed. I'll have to include "Beef Stew' by Obie Plenty
Avatar 11:24pm

There’s a monthly show on another station called Lunchtime Wrap as it airs at noon in the UK and they always have a lunch themed section.

When I worked on a music program, we always talked about the food show, but alas, it never happened.

This was such a great set, and may be one of my favorite shows ever of yours! So great. I've listened to it 2.5 times. My only problem with it is I can't resist getting up and jumping around when it's playing and sometimes I knock over things and people!

Thanks Cal! Also, the management takes no responsibility for damage arising from music-related joy-making.
