In the mid 90s, in my senior year of HS, I found my father's old plaid bellbottoms, and started to wear them. After, a Boy Scout trip to the UK, I got a plaid Scottish tam, and that was my look (got more bellbottoms at the thrift store), until my college gf disapproved.

I was born w/o binocular vision, so, when my dad would pitch to me when I was 5, the ball kept hit my face due to my lack depth precision (my face looked like I was abused). Carmichael:

So the deal is, I was (is) a hired gun guitar player way back then, remember? Those times were great. I played for a few years with a big band, named after the person who formed it. Said person had an all star type of tour in honor of the Beatles for several years.

After a sound check, I went backstage for a frosty beverage. One of the several all stars was Mark Farner. I asked the roadie who had a foot on the cooler to move, so I can get the frosty beverage. We talked about the others who were playing, snd I eventually made the “three chord rock” joke about Grand Funk.

The “roadie” was Mark Farner.

I recall a day in high school just out of the blue when I proclaimed that Jerry Garcia was the greatest rock 'n' roll guitarist ever. I soon backed off. Howe? McGlaughlin? Etc.? Nowadays, many decades later, I wonder if I wasn't on to something at the time.

Ha ha! Carmicael, I did something equally stupid with a director. I needed a table to set up my gear, so I asked this kid to go get me a table....you know the rest.

Farner really has (and seemingly always has) gotten too much shit. yes it's simple music but for 3 guys (in the early days) they sure could fill the air with well-executed sound.

Grand Funk were great. Not geniuses by any stretch, but solid, interesting rock music.

1969 must've been a crazy year for music. Beyond trippy.

Carmichael:

Yes, he sincerely introduced himself. My first words were “I’m sorry “. He laughed and said something to the effect of “that’s not the first time I’ve heard that, and certainly not the last”. He was very gracious.

for many years i thought one day i wont do stupid things any more, but as it slowly dawned on me that i'm just kind of re.... handicapped, i laugh about it. (except when i get profoundly sad about it)

I have done embarrassing things that I'm too embarrassed to post, nothing big though. Well this was an epic 2 hours. Until next time (that I tune in that is).

Thanks Larry for the insights. Nice talking with everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm
coelacanth∅:

you should be embarrassed to say that!
  11:58pm
Dean:

Doing stuff merely because it's selfish or angry doesn't mean it's stupid. Sometimes it's smart to express one's selfishness or anger or what have you. Sometimes, in fact, the stupid stuff we do is motivated by a bogus altruism. Or so I think.

Would be easier to learn, grow and move on if those embarrassing memories didn't haunt us emotionally.
