The Making of a YouTube Radical (Kevin Roose in the NYT, June 8, 2019)

YouTube’s CEO refuses to admit the site radicalizes users in spite of all the evidence (Business Insider, June 11): "YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki was asked whether she believes that YouTube is radicalizing its users and politics during an interview on Monday at Recode's Code Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona. Wojcicki would not outright deny this but said that she believes that the platform offers a 'diversity of opinions.' She also said that YouTube is clamping down on its video recommendations for any videos that are classed as 'borderline content.'"

The problem is all these business models are based on extreme automation… Which is not there yet… But they really want it to be. So we’re all a distraction from their end goal: Reading our minds and giving us exactly what we want before we even know we want it.

For Damn K: Does digital audio production lead to more comfort, confusion or complication?
Avatar 🤖 Swag For Life Member 6:29pm

Digital recording is under constant media changing, so old digital recordings are actually harder to reproduce in their original form than , say 78s and cylinders. That's just the audio formats - disk file systems and audio DAWS all are difficult to make futureproof.

Whilst I’m all for imperfections and happy accidents on analogue recording, digital provides a full studio for any diy band. From experience, the cost of hiring an engineer and renting a studio is getting so costly (in the recent 5 years) many of my friends/bands just record to laptop and use the money for touring.
