I like this song but am troubled by its name. At least mel’s cover is a tasty instrumental.

true, that title's bullshit

the phrase "indian giver" is like bush's "patriot act" and 3/4 of everything else he did that he gave sales-pitch titles to.
same as hitler and them -just call it the oposit and people will assume they're missing something and buy it.

uh, no...let's EAT tubers

I might have been thinking of that chuck Bernard song of the same title.
Avatar 10:16pm
Erica:

Let's eat, TUBERS. Punctuation. It saves lives. Haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Franco Twinkie:

So Coel, a question from the science desk - Does cheese neutralize the toxins that occur naturally in potatoes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
coelacanth∅:

hmmm. Franco, i can't find my thinking cap.
Avatar 10:18pm
still b/p:

I just ate my potato without cheese. How long have I got?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
chresti:

Haha sb/p!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Did you eat the skin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
coelacanth∅:

but, supposedly the root of the potato doesn't have a significant amount of solanine.
...if you're allergic to something it's usually the protein in that food that body won't tolerate, so nothing's going to neutralize that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Funky16Corners:

SBP!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Matt from New Orleans:

You’d need to eat 4.5 pounds of potatoes in one sitting to have mild neurological effects
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Funky16Corners:

When I was a child I was somehow convinced that potato skins had glass in them. I have no idea why.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Matt from New Orleans:

With the skins I have to add
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
chresti:

Hey geez!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
coelacanth∅:

i love potatoes, and my reaction to them is not immediately (or blatantly) life-threatening, so i eat them occasionally. if i bake one, i always eat the skin, because i love it that way.
Avatar 10:21pm
Erica:

I was told that potatoes had eyes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I like this cover of grazing
Avatar 10:23pm
Erica:

Turns out the eyes are just another word for sprouting potatoes.
Avatar 10:23pm
still b/p:

Oh, I ate me some skin.
The right fries -- the really good 'uns -- might get me close to the four and a half pound mark.
Avatar 10:23pm
northguineahills:

lo siento if I pass out due to food coma...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Funky16Corners:

If anyone wants to bring me 4.5 pounds of french fries I'm cool with that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
coelacanth∅:

the eyes are just the sprouts. if the potato is sprouting you absolutely should not eat the sprouts, because of solanine, and probably shouldn't eat the potato at all, because of aflatoxins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
coelacanth∅:

yes, good grazing!
Avatar 10:24pm
northguineahills:

@coel: I eat potatoes all the time w/ eyes, I just cut them out...
Avatar 10:25pm
Erica:

In other words, throw the potato out.
Avatar 10:26pm

Upon request, complimentary Heinz ketchup & malt vinegar

LARGE 8. SMALL 5.5

I prefer goose fat myself but I’m sure they’re adequate
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
Funky16Corners:

MMMMMMMMM
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
coelacanth∅:

ngh it's okay, if you cut them off; but it means it's older, so check for spots that look a little like mold (black or white) or rot spots, and if there's that, don't cut that off -just throw it away. (or compost it)

Larry, as an irish person (well i'm just under 1/2 irish; but more irish than anything else) i have to tell you that irish people are possibly the most likely to be sensitive to potatoes...as it was forced upon our ancestors as the primary food for so long.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
Funky16Corners:

I love Georgie's Hammond on this one (and Mitch Mitchell on drums!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm

I know @coel- Franco never believes me...

food coma ensuing, thanks Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Franco Twinkie:

By the way Larry, last weeks show is the first time I've ever listened to anything on the archive. You should be glad I was out of town, because I would have exasperated everyone with my opinions, musings and general Know-it-allism on Laural Canyon and it's former residents.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm

Avatar 10:42pm

I'm a bit Irish but more Italian and born American haha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm

@Matt - I used to pack the Rob Base 45 and play it back to back with the Lyn Collins in funk sets
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm

I just put you on pause to go watch a little of the video on YouTube and I forgot how good it was

I love this version of Purple Haze. I discovered it on a charlie brown "black" Easter parody video. I know the name of the video but cannot say the N word for PC reasons.

my initial reaction the Dion's cover was that i actually laughed out loud. but it is an interesting arrangement, even if more than a tad disgenuine, as Dion often was. (in my opinion)

wow so many covers of this and i never heard this one, which i do like.

I like that Dion album a lot. If you ever get the chance check out the stuff that Gilberto Gil was doing in 1969/1971. It sounds like he had Dion's Purple Haze on a loop.

Have to confess I've been listening to Genesis outtakes this evening. The post-Gabriel stuff is more impressive than I would have imagined.

Franco do you have a potato-poisoning first-aid kit in the house?
  11:57pm
Dean:

One tour? Two? I saw them with Thompson and Bruford. Only time I ever heard the master live.

(if not, some yellow haze blotter acid should counter your reaction)

Bruford was (because he has retired from drumming) on-the-money musical.
