saw RT play last year in NYC with his band... he said that we'd probably all forgotten about fairport but he'd play a song anyway (sorry i forget which song)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
David D:

Steveo, surely he was only being humorously modest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
steveo:

yes, but the crowd was also strangely unenthusiastic. oh dang i looked up the setlist and he did a 2nd encore which didn't seem like it would happen -- finished with the beatles' good night....

Ooh a shoutout! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
doctorjazz:

The last show I saw was a request show (at The City Winery), everybody submitted requests before the show, they went into a hat, and he played them (he had an assistant with a laptop who searched lyrics for him). Some were his tunes, others way out (he did The Beatles' And Your Bird Can Sing , which is not a solo acoustic tune . It was a really fun show (my 23 year old daughter loved it as well).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
steveo:

i have heard some of a city winery show from last year on WFUV -- was that the one? I'd like to hear his 'and your bird'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
David D:

Henry: When I said it was a great idea, I meant it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm

The idea being a countdown of the hits of 1968 - in all non-English cover versions, which will be next week's show...

Not sure which show WFUV broadcast.. Tbh, And Your Bird Can Sing wasn't perfect, but amazing anyway (who'd even attempt such a thing?), and it was great to hear it .

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
David D:

TDK60: I have official word from my wife, who took the picture (thanks!), that it is in fact an old piece of art. It is in another part of town that I don't get to a lot...
  6:37pm
Dean:

In the Fanfare magazine review of this recording of Brahms and Segerstam symphonies, Raymond Tuttle quotes the conductor/composer's mind-bending notes, then goes on:

"I have just attempted to present Maestro’s Segerstam description exactly as it appears in Alba’s booklet. If you think that’s incoherent, you should hear his symphony! I don’t know if Segerstam was using the word 'happening' in its 1960s sense. To do so would be appropriate, though, because his Symphony No. 288 lets it all hang out, does its own thing, has a love-in, protests the war in Vietnam, burns its bra, watches 2001: A Space Odyssey, and drops acid all at the same time. It’s a bang crash whoosh thud whoop of a symphony, like a hippie Charles Ives, and I think it’s funny that it has been paired with Brahms’s ever-so-classical Symphony No. 1. No doubt that will annoy a lot of people. (Good.)"
Avatar 6:38pm
TDK60:

..in the photo's structure, there's a circled-A anarchist symbol on top of the red paint, and covered by more silver paint. Too bad the art got messed up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
David D:

Dean: Haha, thanks. I love the last sentence in particular!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm
David D:

TDK60: It is both art and an artifact, I suppose.

@David: Well, Sweden did rule Finland forever until Russia had a go at it. Actually, the middle classes spoke Swedish and Finnish was thought to be a peasant language, until the nationalist movement that started in the 1870s (see Sibelius), when Finnish started to be a point of pride.

@David: finding ISRC codes for 5000+ tracks downloaded from YouTube, mainly electro, a quarter of the total house. House tracks have many remixes, and radio edits that may have the same name, but are shorted. I have to cross-check artist name, track title, length, and in some cases some sleuthing about track history. It's driving me crazy.
