"I have just attempted to present Maestro’s Segerstam description exactly as it appears in Alba’s booklet. If you think that’s incoherent, you should hear his symphony! I don’t know if Segerstam was using the word 'happening' in its 1960s sense. To do so would be appropriate, though, because his Symphony No. 288 lets it all hang out, does its own thing, has a love-in, protests the war in Vietnam, burns its bra, watches 2001: A Space Odyssey, and drops acid all at the same time. It’s a bang crash whoosh thud whoop of a symphony, like a hippie Charles Ives, and I think it’s funny that it has been paired with Brahms’s ever-so-classical Symphony No. 1. No doubt that will annoy a lot of people. (Good.)"
