	10:37pm Funky16Corners: A few years ago my son was out for a walk and found a whole litter that had been abandoned. Two was our limit, though.

	10:38pm Erica: What happened to the rest of the litter Larry? Did you take them to a shelter and have them adopted?

	10:39pm Erica: Well that's good news. Hopefully they got fixed and are in loving homes now.
	10:40pm Funky16Corners: The consensus from the neighbors and the animal control guy was that someone dumped the litter at the park that is adjacent to our neighborhood. They didn't show signs of having been outdoors for long.
	10:42pm Erica: People are so cruel to animals. Yet we're told to spay/neuter them to save lives when it's people who won't take the time to care for them or find them a new home.
	10:44pm Funky16Corners: Yeah, tese didn't seem like they would have survived very long on their own. Ironically we'd been trying to find a dog, and the cats found us.

	11:29pm Dean: Six degrees, Erica. It likely has something to do with the show. Yeah, Larry, but even when it was huge it was shitty. Dumb-ass DJs, crappy programming, those godawful videos of stoopid rock stars mugging for the camera.

	11:30pm northguineahills: Howdeez coel y Erica. Spent three hours making spicy Mexi chicken soup today (first time cooking w/ non-seafood meat). I'm so stuffed (it was delicious, many ingredients from my garden....
	11:30pm Funky16Corners: I read an oral history of MTV, which was pretty rough going, but the most interesting part was how insane record companies got about spending money on videos, and the influence (largely bad) that the trend had on music

	11:34pm Erica: What I don't understand is that most of the time, music videos have nothing to do with the actual songs, especially ones from the 80s. For example, the song could be about heartbreak, but one of the band members are at a party, flirting with a girl.
	11:36pm Dean: Sexist to the core and by design, of course, both the videos and the lyrics to "Centerfold." I'd like to think that the latter at least somehow acknowledged the exploitative nature of "girlie magazines."
	11:37pm Jeff Ash: I think that really might have been George Jessel on that J. Geils cut.

	11:39pm Funky16Corners: @Chresti - J Geils were HUGE on MTV for a while, especially when Freeze Frame came out
	11:41pm Funky16Corners: @Erica - it's interesting to have seen the evolution of music video, from the Scopitones in the 60s, to the early music video from Europe and the UK in the 70s on into MTV at its peak. A few gems along the way, but a lot of dreck too
	11:41pm Dean: I suppose I have to confess an affection for Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer."
	11:42pm still b/p: Some of the prime-MTV-years videos soooo awful. And for a while, they were graded on a weird curve. Primitive and clunky in concepts and production technique, but because it was a new growing category, they'd get a pass, or even praise. One I regarded as awful, I was amused to learn was NOTORIOUS for its awfulness: Journey, Separate Ways.
	11:43pm Funky16Corners: The earliest years of MTV were the best because the production of videos hadn't fallen into a rut, and they were playing a lot of bands that weren't well known or popular but who had videos ready.
	11:43pm Erica: Yeah. If I had grown up in those times, I'd see it for myself. I'll just have to take your word for it.

	11:46pm northguineahills: I only saw MTV in the 80s at my friends' houses or when going up north to visit my grandparents. Only a handful stand out to me. I suppose I saw a few on pop-up video in the 90s...

	11:49pm Funky16Corners: The arrival of MTV coincided with my parents getting cable. There was video jukebox on HBO, before MTV and of course videos on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and the like
	11:49pm doctorjazz: Interesting take on Stealin'.. My 2 favorite versions are Taj Mahal's and the Jim Kweskin Jug Band
	11:50pm still b/p: After a few years, there was a category of videos spoofing other videos, by regular acts, not just parody acts. "So" was the last vinyl I bought at the tail of the standard vinyl era.
	11:51pm Funky16Corners: This is the band that would eventually include Huey Lewis, and would then back Elvis Costello on his first album
	11:51pm Dean: My introduction to cable was earlier, mid-'70s, when a family whose home I loitered around bought a subscription to one of the early services. I remember watching Woody Allen's Interiors multiple times one week. Might be his best movie, but then I'm no good judge of movies. I frankly can't tolerate the medium at all.
	11:52pm doctorjazz: Really , they toughened up quite a lot later (at least relative to this mellow take on. STEALIN)

	11:41pm Funky16Corners: @Erica - it's interesting to have seen the evolution of music video, from the Scopitones in the 60s, to the early music video from Europe and the UK in the 70s on into MTV at its peak. A few gems along the way, but a lot of dreck too

	11:42pm still b/p: Some of the prime-MTV-years videos soooo awful. And for a while, they were graded on a weird curve. Primitive and clunky in concepts and production technique, but because it was a new growing category, they'd get a pass, or even praise. One I regarded as awful, I was amused to learn was NOTORIOUS for its awfulness: Journey, Separate Ways.
	11:43pm Funky16Corners: The earliest years of MTV were the best because the production of videos hadn't fallen into a rut, and they were playing a lot of bands that weren't well known or popular but who had videos ready.

	11:51pm Dean: My introduction to cable was earlier, mid-'70s, when a family whose home I loitered around bought a subscription to one of the early services. I remember watching Woody Allen's Interiors multiple times one week. Might be his best movie, but then I'm no good judge of movies. I frankly can't tolerate the medium at all.
