greetings from the Oregon Coast…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am
Jeff Golick:

Wow, @Granny Spicy Tuna! Up early today. Welcome. And welcome to your new avatar, too.
  9:10am
Doug Schulkind:

No yoga for me today. Getting the full D:O monty.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:10am
Granny Spicy Tuna:

Thanks, Jeff. I am an early riser. I wanted an avatar that was "ridiculously masculine" and this is the one that @queems found for me. Hee hee…
  9:10am
Listener Gregory:

Wait, this isn't the first show of the year? Fraud at the polls!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am
Stanley:

I'm in.
I'm in with the OUT crowd.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:11am
Granny Spicy Tuna:

Doug, let's do a downward dog together right now!
Avatar 🥁 9:11am
hyde:

goooooood morning!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:13am
Granny Spicy Tuna:

Or a cat/cow works for me, too. Since so many cats have arrived.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am
Jeff Golick:

@Doug! I'll try to realign your chakras via sound waves, then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am
Jeff Golick:

@Listener Gregory: Sorry about that. But welcome all the same.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am
Jeff Golick:

@Stanley, you are always in style.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am
Jeff Golick:

Helloooooooooooooooooooo, @hyde!
  9:22am

OK, Jeff. Just don’t realign my Sun Ras.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am

Clank clank, @duke!
  9:27am

This surely is just as good as yoga.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:29am
Granny Spicy Tuna:

Ah! I'm going to the Sun Ra exhibit at the Portland Art Museum today. I am soooo excited!
  9:35am
Listener Gregory:

The web is telling me that Ellen Fullman plays a string instrument 26 meters long. Can anyone confirm this? I would accept anything in the 24-28 m range.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am
Jeff Golick:

Super exciting, @GST! Please report back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am
Jeff Golick:

'tis true, @LG. I believe her first LP is called "The Long String Instrument."
  9:37am
Listener Gregory:

The instrument is said to have "approximately 80 strings." Apparently, the true value is yet unknown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am
Jeff Golick:

If this Eno were actually piped into airports I suspect there'd be mass rioting.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:47am
doctorjazz:

Good morning all! (or good whatever time it is)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:49am
Granny Spicy Tuna:

Eno reminds me to check my Oblique Strategy for the day. It is:

Use fewer notes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am
Jeff Golick:

'mornin', @doctorjazz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am
Jeff Golick:

The King in Amadeus felt similarly, @GST.

This song is not as good without Jeff's vocals.

Great album ,this Melford release!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:06am
doctorjazz:

Pretty Jarrett, too. Part 1 of his solo album LA Fenice is a knockout as well (but as aggressive as this is sweet ).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:13am
doctorjazz:

Trane doesn't sound so "Traney", honk he's working hard to follow Monk...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:14am
doctorjazz:

Meant ".. .think he's working .."
  10:17am
Listener Gregory:

@doctor, Isn't this how they started out their Carnegie Hall concert... with the slowest, quietest tune in their repertory? That was chilling.
Avatar 🥁 10:18am
hyde:

this is cool. i dont really know this LP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am
Dave Sewelson:

Beautiful set Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am
Jeff Golick:

@hyde: Heya

@Dave S.: thanks! You come down from your debut show high yet?
  10:24am
Doug Schulkind:

@doctorjazz
I prefer to keep it at “honk.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am
Dave Sewelson:

Still buzzing....my grandson said "I hope your radio show is over, now."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am
Jeff Golick:

@Dave: HA. I get similar from my kids.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:28am
doctorjazz:

Haven't heard this Haden-Cherry either, lovely!
LG, they did start the Carnegie Hall concert with Monk's Mood... Haven't listened to that album in a while, but it was half a year later, I think Trane had "grokked" Monk more by then from what I've read .
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:31am
doctorjazz:

Fun show Dave! Great debut! (on the stream, of course) .
  10:32am
Listener Gregory:

Otomo Yoshide did a whole album of Lonely Woman, with solo, trio, and quartet versions (speaking of Japanese guitarists).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am
Jeff Golick:

Ah, @LG. Don't know that record! Sounds fascinating.
  10:36am

I thought it was quite good.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am

Back in 2012, Scott McDowell played a whole lovely show of Lonely Woman, on The Long Rally: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:38am

And with that, i'm on my way to the Sun Ra exhibit! HONK!

Speaking of guitarists, is this Blood Ulmer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am

Good ears, @LG! Indeed it is.
  10:41am

It was just a guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am

Oh, cool, @GST - enjoy! Thanks for being here this (early) morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am

The rest of the Ornette quartet here is, unusually, Sirone and Billy Higgins.
  10:42am

Speaking of concerts, an old favorite of mine, Andy Statman, is playing at a nearby temple in New Jersey in a few weeks. Just got tickets (it's a Chabad temple, which might mean I have to put on tfillin to attend) ..

Couldf be ,Jeff I'm curious to see... Chabad generally tries to be gentle in their approach, try to get errant Jews back by making it fun, warm, inclusive , so I'd guess they wouldn't be likely to separate sexes, which some could find upsetting. Still, I'm curious what it'll be like
  11:06am
Listener Gregory:

I'm wondering what "Schlegelmilch" means... the milk of German philosophy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am
Jeff Golick:

Hi, @Dean!

Aw, shit, @Doug.
  11:12am
Dean:

Good morning.

Halvorson's drummer here, Ches Smith, is from these parts, I'm pretty sure.
  11:12am
Listener Gregory:

Thinking of guitarists + Ornette, wouldn't it have been something to hear Mary Halvorsen play with him?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
Jeff Golick:

@Dean, I think that's right, though he's in Brooklyn nowadays.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:16am
doctorjazz:

Mary Halverson reminds me of David Mutton the 80s and 90s a bit, in that there was an amazing number of recordings released, but all in such different contexts that it wasn't too much
  11:17am
Doug Schulkind:

Halvorson has been workshopping, performing and recording in Pittsburgh so often these past few years. Thrilling!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:20am

Picturing AOC slo-mo dancing to this in my head.
  11:55am
Dean:

Dennis Gonzalez has a tune, The Sunny Murray-Cecil Taylor Dancing Lesson. Same tune?
  11:56am
Listener Gregory:

Shortly after the show started, I began to go through a pile of mail I let accumulate last year. Now, at 11:55, I have finished. That is embarrassing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am

@Doug: perfect.
@Dean: probably so, as that was Gonzalez on that track.
