Born in 1952, listened to my Mom’s 78’s, mostly big bands, but also Little Richard and Chuck Berry,... so it’s all my Mom’s fault she raised a hippie who became a punk and who is now an oldster glued to FMU!

Thanks all, enough brain cells were saved to still appreciate free form radio at its best. My summer visit to my 94 year old Mom included taking her to the Cranbrook Academy of Arts exhibition on Punk era posters and graphics, and she totally loved it!

Betsy O:

@BronwynB,... yes indeed, I was blessed with a cool Mom who tolerated my many transformations. She appreciated early Rock and Roll, a huge early Elvis, Patsy Cline, Jerry Lee, Little Richard fan. She liked my Janis, Dylan and Hendrix records but had a hard time taking to my Stooges a d MC5 albums, much less what came later. I also took her to see Elvis and Tom Jones in Detroit in the mid-70’s,... wonderful yet strange memories! How about you, any parental musical influences?

hello Bronwyn B and fellow WFMU listeners -
Avatar 4:08am

my parents introduced me to a lot of music. Richard Thompson who i played earlier was a big one. also Leonard Cohen, Burt Bacharach, all kinds of great music from the 60s and 70s, also classical music (from mom) and old country (from dad)
Avatar 4:08am

Betsy O:

@Jay/London,... what a wonderful pub and musical venue, so intimate, plus I love all the vinyl on the walls, wooden chairs and red sofa,... feels like a home away from home. Thank you for keeping a place for new music and artists to perform and keeping rock and roll alive!

@Jay/London,... thanks for the video link to the local pub you call home, very lively and fun, plus I imagine anyone who calls it there home pub has an ownership of sorts to it by keeping it alive and profitable, it sounds exactly as it looks, and that’s a very good thing.

@diciassette: that is my parents' "our song"...they love richard thompson, it's a favorite of their favorite radio station WXPN, and my mom has red hair! my dad doesn't have a motorcycle though...he rode one once and fell off

Also, it's kinda weird seeing a pic of Boulez on a WFMU playlist, as those are still displayed in many places where I work. Then again, I often wear a WFMU T-shirt at work, so it evens things out
