the dudes in the background set up a harmonic resonance that makes me think autotune, but im sure it isn't.

What's better than a throat singer?

More throat singers!
  7:21pm
JakeGhould:

@Ken: That was a horrible joke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
Dan Bodah:

Not a horrible joke -- it was deep though

sometimes i listen to the arab emirates on shortwave to what sounds close to this type of singing. although i'm sure no women are allowed to sing there.

@dale, I am intrigued. I have heard some work music from the Emirates that sounds a little similar but I guess I need to do some research!

@DanBodah: So you are into those deep throat jokes?
Avatar 7:34pm
βrian:

I remember going to auctions along the MI/OH border. Old farmsteads being sold off in the 80s. Mesmerizing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm
dale:

all i could say is pick up a shortwave radio and listen in the late afternoon our time.

I grew up in NC and my extended family had a tobacco farm. I've been to a tobacco auction or two

@dale: Yeah, just pokin' ya.

I didn't realize shortwave was still a thing. Our local HAM enthusiast recently shut down and had his 60-ft antenna disassembled.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
dale:

lot's of ham activity still. he must have just been over the whole scene. shortwave is way less interesting. no more bbc or deutsche welle....lot's of christian whackos and people trying to sell gold and prepper supplies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
Dan Bodah:

The band Kotiteollisuus has a great cover of this Motelli Skronkle tune with an extremely funny butt-oriented video: vimeo.com...

This singer, Okna Tsahan Zam, was "educated in Moscow as a nuclear engineer and worked at a nuclear power plant" then returned to his Kalmyk homeland and "became a performer of the national epic Jangar."

I'm on Kitchen Detail tonight. (A polite variation on the actual household term.)

I'm working on a tomato bisque with caramelized onions and garlic, fresh thyme, basil, and rosemary. I've added some vocal fry for it's savory highlight notes.

Great choose Dan! Every small village in Barbagia (center of the Island) have a different tradition and way of singing. I digitalized Archivio Mario Cervo (6800 disc from 1922) next time I'll play in NYC we would meet and share nice talk about the complexity of Sardinian traditions music. Here a great Canto in Re: http://www.sardegnadigitallibrary.it/index.php?xsl=626&id=1216 best from Paolo
