I hate Hartfield airport w/ the burning of 1x10^2000 suns. I'll pay hundreds of dollars more to avoid a connection there *shudder*

i don't think i've been to Hartfield. hopefully, that won't ever happen, i guess.

Is that like how Paris keeps all the tall Business Buildings in this one enclave in the north - like they're an embarrassment?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
Kat in Chicago:

I don't mind LaGuardia for the most part, but I will not fly out of there in the evening again. After a series of delays, American canceled one of my flights right before midnight. I rebooked for an AM flight but we weren't allowed to stay in the secure area and weren't given hotel vouchers, so I spent the night in the food court. It is not a quiet or comfortable place.

My brother in law is a retired USAF pilot who now flies for FedEx. He drives across the country because he hates to fly. Why? In his words, "TSA". He also vehemently argues that "peanut butter is NOT a liquid!"

9/11 happened because a few people had boxcutters. They could be plastic...TSA is one of Harry Shearer's many fave things to examine factually w/ great irony on 'Le Show'...maybe it's prevented stuff & we don't know...

...I took the Greyhound all the way across the USA diagonally. I'd suffer anything to avoid that again...I'd like to do the Train just once - but not cheap I'm told...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm
Kat in Chicago:

I doubt it has prevented much, RRNov63. It's security theater. I do get spared some of it as I'm apparently considered not much of a risk (white, older, female) and am generally gifted with a Precheck logo on my boarding pass.
Avatar 6:23pm

When my car was in the shop when I was 19, I took a Greyhound from Gainesville to Tampa. What is usually a 2.5 hour drive, ended up being almost 6 hours.

The state of Airlines & Transpo & how they've changed make for a useful metaphor for our infrastructure & quality of life in society & what & why &tc. ...In itself - I've flown very little - & still find it a good cure for Atheism - in both the positive & negative senses...

I sleep on flights by barely sleeping beforehand, have a few drinks at the airports, a shot once aloft, and I sleep well, it works for all but trans-Pacific flights. However, since I always get a window seat, I'm always curious about the geography if the sky is clear, then I can't sleep. I used to make my wife look up our flight's position, and I would tell her where we were by looking out the window.

what do they swab records with? if it's an alcohol base i'd say pay for the record then you may swab it; and by the way Fuck you! if you'd like to clean it for me Thank you. please use distilled h2o with a little photoflo added.

the automobile industry helped do away with public transit

@chresti: And the civil rights movement helped fuel the auto industry since if anyone can sit anywhere on a bus, just get your own car and do what you wish.

Worst TSA situation, I got a large toolbox for xmas, and I forgot to put it in my luggage, and I was running late, so I had to surrender it. Second (non-TSA) related incident, I had two identical carry-on luggages, one w/ my clothes, etc, and the other w/ mezcales, y salsas picantes. They were identical, and I mixed them up. The security in Mexico City confiscated all of my yummy mezcales y salsas. estaba muy triste ese dia.

chresti i wash them using my ancient "discwasher" brush, on the turntable. i ran out of fluid many years ago and since rca (?) bought discwasher it's crap so i made my own. a pint of distilled water with a few drops of "photoflo" in it.
  6:49pm
JakeGould:

Anyway, Gary Numan sang about “Cars” and is a loony fascist. Still a good touring musician.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm

Forgive me, Father. My last flight was in 2002. My ex and I flew in and out of MacArthur in Ronkonkoma to Nashvegas.

I cleaned my records with a Discwasher and my t-shirt when i was a teen. Only quality Ocean Pacific and Canal Jean Company t-shirts.

And apropos to this show… This is the kind of show that makes me think I am listening to WFMU and that is a good thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm

"cars" was a brilliant jab at people's delusional sense of security while in them.

that's discwasher @chresti. I still have one of those but need fluid for it. might try coel's formula.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm
coelacanth∅:

most record cleaners are bullshit. detrimental crap that at very best won't clean your records. when discwasher, which was the best cleaner available, sold out, the new one looked similar but left lint on the records. that's probably still available.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm
Kat in Chicago:

yeah I have some of the new one @coel but it doesn't seem especially effective.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm
Kat in Chicago:

why the photoflo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm
coelacanth∅:

Kat, it's a shame. good product and they had to mess with it.
the photoflo (as with film) helps to keep dusty and lint from sticking. makes it slippery.
