Awesomeness is so subjective...

Is it morning? Such a fine line between the real and the vividly imagined...

Beautiful choice, Jeff. We'll see summer come again. Hope Montana was magical.

It was, Butterman, thanks for asking. I'll rap a bit about it at the end of the hour (and probably for the next several weeks, ha)

glad I switched to the stream in time for that transition!

What is 91.1?
  10:33pm

@ franny: 91.1(fm) is the frequency for the WFMU braodcast in NJ/NYC area.

This Wet Tuna is awesome, and not only because I am fond of the road.

Their song rotation is small but every performance is really different. Best band out there right now...

Wow, I checked back to the list to see what the new song was, but it's not. I'm impressed.

I caught Wet Tuna at Reverberation Vinyl in Bloomington IL in May. It was awesome. Inner spaceway traveling. It was also the most heavily taped show I’d ever seen.

I shit you not: one of the teachers at my son's middle school attended 800 Dead shows.

Which is weird, because I don't recall every meeting her, and I saw every Dead show ever.

Not being snarky. Also, I agree - rock IS dead.
  11:23pm
Dean:

Agreed. I'll listen as often as I can. I'm of two minds about the WFMU schedule. On the one hand, I understand that Ken has a miserable job when it comes to slotting shows. On the other hand, I want the regulars whom I enjoy not to move one little bit, because I plan my days around them.

Rock is NOT dead. I caught The Vibrators last night at a bar in town. They were stunningly good. They, uh, rocked! My ears ring joyously!

@Dean 'Baby Baby Baby....." - didn't know they're still doin' it!
  11:30pm
Dean:

@franny, They are! And they're doing it well, but ironically, "Baby, Baby" last night kinda flagged. But otherwise they were in good form. They did a Flamin' Groovies tune, several vintage Vibrators tunes, and a number of new ones. I've enjoyed them since '77, when I bought the first album, UK issue, at a record store in Long Beach, CA. Never saw them live, though, until last night!

el Garee le Bee~:

JC- It'll be ok in the next slot. Did the same thing but had the most fun when we conducted "radio experiments"...crazy stuff. Some of it even worked! Plus you're in a gianormous radioscape there with the late nite city backbone. Great peeps call you from everywhere working late shifts, going home and being wild humans. There's a big radio throb pulsing in the middle of the nite. Check you later. Best.

I appreciate the positivity but none of that means anything to me ha

zenkoan:

Jeff--the later shift has gotta be hard physically. But at that time of night, lots of people probably listen with headphones, few or no distractions...really Listen more deeply to what you present. So maybe that means something.
Glad you had a great trip and welcome back.
Avatar 11:47pm
Jeff Conklin:

@zenkoan: Good point but the truth is most people listen to my show on the archives (a LOT of people). It really doesnt matter when I'm actually on to anybody but me I think ha

Wirework Headman:

Hey man, really bummed to hear the news, but happy for you. I was born and raised in MT, have lived in OR, NM, ND and now MN so I totally get it. I just discovered this show a few weeks ago, and just have to say it is totally awesome. I drive truck and I can't tell you how much I look forward to listening to this show...please don't abandon radio wherever your travels may take you!
