Hello, Ms. M, KP, elwyn, NGH. Masks defogged? Snorkle ready? Flippers tuned up? Underwater fun, then!
  12:08pm
elwyn:

@sem: winter has really started over here with lots of rain except today. so although it's not defogging, it was sunny and dry enough for me to ride a bike to work and go running tonight.

time for benthic binaural bathing beauty.

Elwyn, we are barely out of winter here it seems!
Avatar 12:19pm
northguineahills:

My winter was only 2.5 months, but it was quite wintery by Floridian standards. (usually winter is only 4-6 weeks)

Looks like the underwater theme park in Hawaii's largest lake will need to relocate. www.hawaiinewsnow.com... You play by Pele's rules out there.

Greedy volcano! Hello Ken!

Only one more week until World Cup!!! I have no clue who I should root for.... Or just enjoy the matches for what they are....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

See who Honky Tonk Becky is rooting for and you can have a friendly rivalry.

Island, Island. (y El Tri)!

I've watched every WC match since '98 (when all were available on American TV live). Not sure how I'm going to manage this time around. Wait, I killed the firewall here at work, I can watch at work,, yaye!

There were 7 lassies on the show. Collies don't last long (father had one, I had a shetland sheepdog [similar, but smaller])

sad, but true.

Iceland b/c they're the smallest country to ever make the WC (pop. 330K)

i haven't paid attention to the World Cup. I am too lazy to google if Australia is in it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Meghan:

Yup Australia is in it... I see they are playing against France
Avatar 12:58pm
northguineahills:

It was Trinidad, playing w/ their B team, effing Trinidad that knocked out the US.

The only WC qualifier I saw in person (in Orlando) this last cycle the US beat a good Panama side 4-0. It was the exception to an otherwise lackluster campaign.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
Meghan:

France, Denmark and Peru.... so those could be some good games.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
Sem:

Hi, @elwyn. Signed in, been listening, but up to my blowhole in government paperwork for an NPO so didn't have a chance to quiz you on the hardship of winter in the Antipodes. Temperatures drop to, what, 15C?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm

It's a weird World Cup without USA, Italy and the Netherlands....

In the Snowy Mountains (New South Wales) it can get quite chilly, but then again, its peaks are a little over 2200m.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm
Sem:

Sets are drivng the energy at this desk, Meghan. Much obliged.

NGH: had south Miami friends and visited them 6 months after Hurricane Andrew. Just missed them. They said after the thing blew thru, nonbody could find anything because no landmarks were left in that flat, flat place. The eventual 700 foot high piles of ruble became known at Garbage Mountain(s)
Avatar 1:19pm

After Shina Williams, you should play Shinehead!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm

Have to keep the desk driving force at a high for you all.... get that after lunch food slump digesting!
Avatar 1:21pm

@Sem: I had a friend who lived in Homestead when he was a sophomore in HS when Andrew hit. He was alone w/ his sister and their house was coming apart. When the eye came over, he and his sister ran across the street to a house that was up for sale, which was a good thing w/ their house lost they're roof when the other side of the eye-wall came through.

Ack, I see the last remaining Munchkin has died. Flags are at half staff at Dunkin' Donuts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Meghan:

ohhhhhhhh man... that was so bad it was good....hahaha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
Sem:

While visiting my friends there, we played at golf at a little municipal course, out in the suburbs. It was surrounded by wrecked houses being repaired. Those tract homes had their entire roofs, trusses and all, flipped right off. Later heard that the trusses hadn't really been fastened very well to the buildings. What a mess it all was.

Unless you count those all-day shows in Prospect Park/East River Park, etc, I haven't been to a fest in eons either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Meghan:

but the east river and prospect park shows aren't like that over saturated fests that once you are in you can't leave. And you must buy all the stuff from their vendors at crazy prices
Avatar 1:49pm

My first concert I was allowed to go to (by myself) was Lollapalooza '93. I had to cut my hair to go (and I served as my friends' designated driver, as I was still straight-edge back then)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
Meghan:

you had to cut your hair for it? how odd!
Avatar 1:59pm

My parents were strict fundies. I wasn't allowed to leave the house alone until I was 16.5 (although in Japan I was when I was younger, go figure).
