Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Remarkable that anyone didn't hear it for decades or heard it late in the game. It's become quite a groaner for some folks or at least a long-time love/hate thing because of its endurance as an over-familiar standard and its irresistible sing-along cuing. Can bring out the grouch.

Not legendary by a mile, but I have a soft spot for the late Larry Hosford's first two albums. Worked with Leon Russel and George Harrison, so there's a pop feel to it.

I can understand disliking EWF's falsetto, or any falsetto; but there are so many things to admire about EWF. Me, EWF is one of the all-time pop/soul acts ever. So many EWF songs are just amazing. "Shining Star", "That's the Way of the World", "Getaway", my god's sake "Fantasy": they are an original.

Story on the web reports he taught there late '60s to early '70s. Here, results of a search for "cecil taylor" in the WYSO archives:
http://www.greenecountyroom.info/cdm/search/collection/WYSOProgram/searchterm/%22cecil%20taylor%22/order/title

The players don't work for me. The concert consists of two reels, A and B, the latter of which can't be located. I take it this would not have been the event related by Mr. Ward.

There's a Little Jimmy Dickens novelty hit "Country Music Lover", in which a good ol' boy laments that his new girl is not one. It has lines like "she thought 'Kitty Wells' was a place a cat goes to get water". Well, there's also the line "Would you believe that she thought "Johnny Cash' was money you find in a commode". So there you are.
