I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Doug Schulkind:

For her 50th birthday, I took my wife for a ride on the Cyclone. She typically hates roller coasters and other "thrill" seeking experiences, but she felt this was one thing she needed to have done, at least once. We were both shocked at how violently the ride shook us around. Not getting whiplash seemed to have been more a matter of luck than anything else. A few weeks after our ride, a tourist (visiting NYC for his 53rd birthday) went for a ride on the Cyclone and broke his neck — and a few days later died from the injury.

All of the funhouses I've been to in the last decade have brilliantly vibrant signs everywhere denoting the direction of the exits, which seem to be everywhere. It sort of takes away from the fun. (Probably still better then being burned alive).

When I think funhouse, I think either of the Stooges or that one so-titled episode of "The Sopranos"!
@ngh: IIRC a haunted/funhouse in NJ had just such a fire back in the later 70s or 80s.

@Dave B Because of Bill Mac I watched several Harold Lloyd including Speedy! That was lovely.

Harold Lloyd was the best, and incredibly underrated. Years and years ago, WNYC used to do "Silent Film/Loud Music" at WTC Wintergarden Saw Alloy Orchestra provide music for Speedy live.... It was awesome.

Everyone make sure their restraint is in locked and ready position. Check w/ an attendant if you're not sure or are having trouble.

(just read an article about roller coaster accidents last night)

IIRC it was Austin Kleon on Twitter who suggested that all TVs in airports, instead of showing rage-inducing cable news, ought to show either the Turner Classic Movies channel, or loops of Keaton and Harold Lloyd films.

the feral kittens around my office started to appear around early Feb.
Avatar 1:42pm
Mayuko:

@northguineahills @rw the attendant is often not quite sure. But, I read that the guy who had been operating the Cyclone for 30 years had never ridden it himself, so I think that's what sometimes happens.
Avatar 1:45pm
Mayuko:

@james haha! I'm not sure if I want to watch Keaton film at an airport, even though I do love him very much. Things always seem to go wrong in his films.

On second thought, things seem to be going much worse in the news than Keaton film anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm

This was a real whirlwind of a movie and soundtrack for me to have seen as a kid. I'd been raised on Broadway albums, though, but this was one of the first shows (even if on TV/screen) I'd seen. "Grease," too. (I was waaaaay too young for some bits of "Grease"!)

I haven't listened to this show yet, but here's why I missed it: Byambajargal Gombodorj was singing, and I stayed a long time after the show hoping she'd sign a record I'd brought. She eventually did, and giggled when I pulled out that record, she asked where I got it from, though I got it from her show 6 years ago. She signed it anyway, and that meant a lot to me. I did delay heart surgery to hear her, I didn't tell her that, that would have been gross. As if that wouldn't be great enough, at one point I asked a woman there whether Byambajargal would come out and maybe sign that record, and she recognized me as one of the few people who had been at her shows (while I had no idea I had seen her 6 years ago). I gave her my email address, I really hope I'll hear about her shows
I'll listen to this show soon, but I wanted to share this weirdness without pretending to intrude with this week's show
Avatar 10:04pm
Mayuko:

I do remember you were talking about Byambajargal's show before the surgery! I'm glad you had a great time again. I'd think Byambajargal and people helping her show would be happy to know how much her music means to you.
