Favoriting February 13, 2018: SVEN LIBAEK (The Interview)
Sven Libaek joins Morricone Island for a rare interview. The Norwegian-born, Juilliard-grad composed "Inner Space," the legendary 1974 Australian soundtrack to the William Shatner-narrated underwater documentary TV series (re-purposed in 2004 by Wes Anderson in "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou"), and "Solar Flares," the 1974 Peer International library recording. Libaek has released more than 30 albums and influenced Australian's mid-1960s music scene as the Music Director and A&R Manager for CBS Records Australia. His film and TV credits include 1965 nature series "Nature Walkabout," 1968 surf film "To Ride A White Horse," 1970 censored "The Set," 1971 comedy "Nickel Queen" and 1972 detective drama series "Boney." He hosted his own 1974 ABC-TV show "All About Music" and from 1977 to 1994 worked in L.A. orchestrating popular songs for "easy listening" radio and artists Neil Diamond and Lionel Richie, as well as composing for Hanna-Barbera. During such time, Libaek worked with Maurice Jarre as musical coordinator and orchestrator for Peter Weir's "The Year of Living Dangerously." Votary Records (votarydisk.com) has reissued many of these long out of print, highly sought recordings on vinyl. Tune in next week (2-20-2018) for a deeper listen into Sven Libaek's soundtrack-related work.
