Thanks Linda -- there's no bass on this album, though. Haha (I'm the bass player). I just helped by assembling the art layout and managing the vinyl pressing. :)

Ken From Hyde Park:

Bluh ... all I can offer is The Beat Farmers with their singer's silly voice.
Avatar 7:38pm
Linda Lee:

melinda, seeing someone talk about how it's done helps get a handle on it. i believe it involves vocalizing + forming the throat, too. changing the shape of the resonating chamber.
Avatar 7:39pm
Linda Lee:

that brings out tones that are actually always there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
Dan Bodah:

@Ken, any particular Beat Farmers tunes I should check? I know of them but actually haven't ever listened that I can recall. @Richard, I have played Anonymous 4 years back -- I love that early music singing, but it ordinarily doesn't fit here. Sometimes I do veer into vocal polyphony though, so maybe!

the shape of the mouth too. the whole thing

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I think virtually everything gives overtones except electronic synthesizers - which may give a single pure soundwave. Someone once said flutes - but someone else said no way - all that air & stops - & even the person playing... I'm also told a distorted fuzzed guitar actually has *fewer* overtones*: the soundwave is chopped & made more electronic - counter-intuitive to me since it sounds 'fuzzier' - but makes sense in another way...

Avatar 🍳 Swag For Life Member 7:59pm
Webhamster Henry:

@rr63, the purest tones are from tuning forks, but wood flutes (which suppress high overtones) are pretty sinusoidal. Distortion, through devices, is usually inharmonic, depending on how it's made. But distortion on a just tuned guitar (say) has the sum and difference frequencies line up with the tuning, so it turns into an immense power chord. Check out Jon Catler for examples.
