Hey Dr!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm

There will in fact be a fair amount of jazz this evening!

Evening Larry. Choices thus far have created a great start to the day here in Australia. Absolutely loved the Arthur Lee, never heard that version beforehand. Is it it from the Live DVD?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
doctorjazz:

Cool! (but soul and funk will be fine with me as well).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
doctorjazz:

Never heard that live version of You Set the Scene either, was great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
Funky16Corners:

Hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
doctorjazz:

(I think of Horace Silver being as much soul/funk as jazz)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Funky16Corners:

He was certainly influential in that regard, and went on to make some funky stuff when he had Andy Bey in the band
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
Funky16Corners:

That Love: Forever Changes Concert album is really excellent. Top shelf presentation and Arthur was in great form
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
Funky16Corners:

@Zonk - There is a CD release of that concert that is from the same shows as the DVD

Fabulous Joe Henderson sax solo!
latkes done for this year.
Avatar 7:29pm

We have a huge deli called Harold's about an hour from here that make great, gigantic potato pancakes

Loving the mellowness.

Sounds like a great deli, are you lucky or what.

Avatar 7:36pm

Tasteful. I got to meet Arthur Lee and Johnny Echols not long before Arthur passed. The band Love, or Baby Lemonade with Arthur and Johnny were appearing at a club in San Francisco and I got Johnny's and Arthur's autographs on the Live Forever Changes CD. I waited many years to see them and they did not disappoint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
Funky16Corners:

I only got to see Arthur once, at Maxwells in Hoboken, right before he went to prison. He was backed by the guys from Das Damen. Great show but he was a little paranoid.

Leonard Cohen & Nico, I love it. Several years ago I was playing Leonard in the store where I work a few days before Christmas and a customer teased me about it, given the general trend of playing upbeat holiday music in retail environments. Watching US politics play out from afar is akin to watching a regressive alien life form take hold. Sadly it will spread to other places giving greed riddled despots the confidence to follow suit (its beginning to happen here is Australia already). i consciously don't give gold stars to everything i like; just what i strongly think i should further explore. it's out of hand as it is.
...but also, as i clickystar for my own purposes, i have no reason to do it for songs i already have in my collection (6 in the last set) or artists i'm already aware to explore.

I've been looking for Beaker Street airchecks from the early years, and unless they're in the hands of tight-fisted collectors, there aren't any.

I've accepted some Scott Walker, but it's an accepted taste I have yet to fully acquire. I like his recent stuff.

UM is correct as a the pendant he is about Neu! (same thing w/ Talibam!).
