Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from December 1, 2017 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Oh, Girls Talk.... one of my late beloved’s favorite songs. Sigh.... (I still love it, just makes it more... colorful? can’t really think of a word, esp. with my broken brain [stroke])

So, grew up in a Canadian military family. Posted in the 60s to a Base in the middle of nowhere, in the province of New Brunswick---think Maine with with less savoir faire, but generally more teeth per person. Just off-Base was the only, and I mean ONLY, fast food joint for thirty miles in any direction. Called? The Hinky Dinky.

Was in a bar/club on the banks of the Missouri River one night when I first heard ...and noticed...this. Although I think the calendar had crept to '80 by the time it got there and I got it.

I did the same thing-- bought the Japanese import of Live at Budokan when it came out only to have the exact same record released right afterward domestically for a lot less money. Grrr. That was kind of it for my new import buying. Once burned . . .

Those who regret buying an import only to have it later released domestically remember, your purchase influenced the decision to release domestically. We thank you.

Hi UM:Listening on archive. Tanya Tucker, Not Fade Away. I had seen her at the state fairs a couple times previous to this year. Went to see her in 1979 at a bar somewhere in KCK. She was trying to "crossover" from country to rock or pop. She came out in all red spandex with a rock and roll band - electric guitars and long hair. Not quite what we expected. TNT! Still remember it was fun.
