Hey Gary!

Just found an article that showed an Indiana white supremacist works at a tattoo parlor w/in 500 m of my parents (they live in a gated community). He randomly shot an African-American HS girl in a drive-by and was also jailed for pederasty. Apparently there are a next of Nazis in my hometown. I saw a few unsavory characters when there recently, but I just assumed they were just ignorant rednecks that I was used to as a youth, not full blown Nazis.

Avatar 10:10pm

Yeah, the Indiana Klan actually included Catholics in the 20s, something unheard of in the South. They ran IN for a good 8 years.
Avatar 10:11pm

The guy was from IN, shot the girl near Bloomingdale, served 11 of 30 years in the IN State Penitentiary, and when he got out, moved to FL.

Because Florida is the storm drain of the nation?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
Funky16Corners:

@Jeff - Did he do Soul Makossa??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm

No idea. I remember almost nothing about the show other than it was hotter than hell in there and his grapefruit-colored silk shirt was soaked.

Yeah, I found Enoch Light via the album covers.

This movie is so much fun w/ Peter Sellers (even w/ brown face), and this sndrk is sampled very often.

Funky16Corners:

And 'Birdie num nums..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
Funky16Corners:

My copy of this record (and two others by the maestro) came from the Mancini estate
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
Parq:

"Don't make waves-- male love!" I can remember hearing ads on the radio for that movie.
Avatar 11:15pm
still b/p:

Sellers complications....I was just explaining to someone tonight how I was mistaken in telling him his wigged look for a historical piece of production made him look like Sellers in Magic Christian. But that wasn't it -- all wrong. My mental image was instead a conflated recall of his long-hair looks from What's New Pussycat and I Love You Alice B. Toklas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
Funky16Corners:

I think that's the same wig!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
Parq:

Sellers in his brown-face, eastern-accent guise is what the TV Tropes people call value dissonance. It made all kinds of sense at the time. I offer that as an explnation, not as a defense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
Jeff Ash:

Didn't have the playlist page up, but heard the latest cuts and thought it sounded like Vic Mizzy. Lo and behold! Should I be worried that I recognize Vic Mizzy on the fly?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Parq:

... "explanation",sorry. I hit post when I meant to hit edit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Funky16Corners:

Not at all! If you watched TV from the 1960s he's ingrained into the sound!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Parq:

I'm on my fourth glass of wine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Funky16Corners:

I had to explain that dilemma to my sons, who both love the movie Short Circuit which contains one of the most offensive pieces of brownface ever
Avatar 11:21pm
still b/p:

Toklas/Pussycat... same wig that showed up a lot in 60s flicks and TV when some youngsters were supposed to look Beatley/British Invasiony.

In the current cultural moment, Sellers couldn't do the South Asian thing without trouble, but there still probably wouldn't be much upset, if any, about a Strangelove-style nationality shtick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
Funky16Corners:

I prefer Sellers as the nebbish in Toklas. I love that movie, from the Twin Cantors, to the pot brownies.

I think night-kiting -- with thin glow-sticks and super-mini LEDs figuring into the kite construction -- should be a thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
Funky16Corners:

Except it would likely result in an epidemic of broken legs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
coelacanth∅:

we never flew kites, but my aunt gave us a long box-kite she scored from "red china" (we still don't know how she got into all those forbidden countries back then) but none of us ever tried to fly it. then it disappeared.

"Warning: Prairie dog colony area -- No Night Kiting!"

From a Martha's Vineyard beach 43 years ago (no prairie dogs) on a good brisk wind day in April, we flew tandem kites. Get one way up and out, attach another to that line and send it up. It worked -- was based on something I saw someone pull off in a comic book.

yeah, one day when i was probably like 17 years old i decided my friends and i should try to fly that thing, but it was gone.

i have a few of those Enoch Light 35mm albums. they sound quite bright and the stereo separation is almost "extreme", but i never thought there was anything about them that couldn't have been accomplished via equalization.

Some people around here make and fly fantastic giant kite designs and figures by the harbor.

What else was Bond St. used in....seems like heard it as incidental show music or bg music for sketches with no spoken lines...?

Heard a clip today with Tony Bennet talking about Pearl Bailey punching a girl in the on-stage ensemble -- knocked her out -- when she was mouthing off and getting personal in ragging about Pearl, I think during a rehearsal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm

Bond Street is from Casino Royale. I don't know of it being used anywhere else. I believe Pearl Bailey could/would knock someone on their ass
