Dang, I can't listen. Was that the SF punk band Crime? Heard them live in LA. They were as raucous as you'd imagine.

Avatar 8:29pm
hyde:

@tim holy heck
  8:29pm
Dean:

See the guitarist on that thing?
Avatar 8:30pm
tim abdellah:

Yeah - John Abercrombie! According to discogs, Hoagy Carmichael wrote liner notes for the album!
Avatar 8:33pm
hyde:

wait, John Abercrombie? jesus
  8:33pm
Dean:

The discogs entry has a curious note to the effect that the labels were mixed up. But pairing sides 1 and 4 on one disc, 2 and 3 on the other, wasn't an uncommon practice. It permitted stacking them on a record changer for 1 and 2, then flipping the stack for 3 and 4.
Avatar 8:37pm
tim abdellah:

@Dean - I totally remember that! We had some 78 albums around when I was a kid, and a recall that a 4-disc set would pair sides 1&8, 2&7, 3&6, and 4&5, for the same reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
coelacanth∅:

i noticed that Dean. weird. i'm sure somebody at discogs must know that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
Gary:

There were also rare cases of double albums being 1 and 3 on a side and 2 and 4, I read recently
  8:42pm
Dean:

Worked best, obviously, on recordings that featured a narrative--operas, concept albums, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
coelacanth∅:

Gary - that's a case of understanding the concept but not thinking it through!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
Gary:

Well, but I think that it was for DJs working with 2 players -- anyway, I don't know for certain if it's true, but read it somewhere ... maybe on the Now Playing Facebook page?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
Gary:

It sounds ridiculous when I type it, though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
coelacanth∅:

but you're right that would work in a dj situation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm
Gary:

True, but why would they be spinning whole albums? We clearly need to get the interns researching this one!
  8:50pm
Dean:

This thread was scooped almost three years ago: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/double-albums-with-side-1-side-4-when-did-this-stop.337592/
  8:52pm
Dean:

Then there's Cheap Trick's first LP. It has a side 1 and a side A.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm
coelacanth∅:

i think i'm developing a dependency on ethiopian music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm
Gary:

Ha ha ... just watched that Sgt. Pepper's doc today and saw that Strawberry Fields / Penny Lane was a double A side 45 -- somehow didn't know that before, although I'm certain I had it as a kid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Gary:

Would an Ethiopiques show be exciting or ho hum? Been toying with that or just an Ethiopian show generally ... but it's a great series ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
coelacanth∅:

i've seen "this side/the other side" but i don't recall what album. (probably a few actually)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
coelacanth∅:

a resounding yes from my direction!
  8:56pm
Dean:

Humble Pie's double live Rockin' the Fillmore has track listings for both sides on one side, an illustration on the other.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
coelacanth∅:

queen II - "white side/black side"...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
Gary:

I've seen that done on something else, too, Dean, but can't remember now what
  8:57pm
Dean:

Gotta run to catch a bus.

All for Ethiopia/ques show!
Avatar 8:57pm
hyde:

@Gary yes to the Ethiopiques!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
Gary:

Night, Dean! Okay, I'll start prepping that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm

i've seen that a bunch. then there's the ones that have no info on either side.
