Trigger warning for those that might be sensitive to some graphic descriptions, but I do hope people see that this is a good service that is provided to people that need this service.

man what a sombre topic (not complaining)

@Steve, I didn't know about this. I found a German sitcom on the subject and the obvious Sunshine Cleaning movie.
  7:14pm
Tina:

Hi all - Aftermath here! Fun fact, we were actually consulted by the movie Sunshine Cleaners when they were filming!
  7:15pm
Emily:

@wizard frog: yeah, editing this show all day definitely affected us more than we expected! Somber material, indeed.

Hi Tina! Welcome. Hey all, we have Tina here if you have any direct questions about their services.

thanks for what you do, Tina. i'm so happy i don't have that job, and i'm so happy folks have you to turn to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm

I hope the "clean up" crew gets a lot of therapy.
  7:16pm
Emily:

@bnowb: I was curious about that, too--that must be so important for them
  7:16pm
Heather:

Was this the company that was also on the show "A dirty job"?
These companies do amazing work.
  7:17pm
Tina:

We have a wellness and employee assistance program to help with any type of emotional concerns
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm

Usually a therapist goes to crime scenes like this to talk to family. The clean up crew? no idea.. who talks to them...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Simpsons did it! (Marge cleans up Police Chief Wiggum's crime scenes, season 27 episode 15)
  7:19pm
Tina:

Hi Heather - we're not the same company. We don't allow film crews to accompany us on site. You can imagine the sensitivity and trauma that families are already dealing with, we would not let video filming be another potential strain on them.
  7:20pm
Heather:

Thanks @Tina.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
bnowb:

The police keep you away from the "scene" ... and if its a modern day city like Philadelphia the police come with a therapist. This clean up crew.. is lol bodily fluids and gross and who would still live there.. ? HOUSE SOLD BYE

@Emily and Kimzilla thanks so much for talking about this topic. Death is another one of the more ignored conversations.
Life and all its interesting stinks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

About a year and a half ago, my cousin's husband went off the deep end and died in a shoot-out with the police. There was tear gas involved and they tore the house down afterwards.

This is absolutely disgusting. But probably the most fascinating of your shows @Kimzilla & @Em
Avatar 7:28pm

I know from experience, having a dead human in your house reeks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm
Switchblade Batman:

The screwed thing is, you KNOW someone died in your apartment somewhere along the line.
  7:29pm
Emily:

@Heather: thanks for saying so! I agree--this is something we try to avoid talking about, but I believe we should be more open about it.
  7:30pm
Tina:

tear gas is one of the hardest things to remediate. depending on the family's wishes, condition of the house, etc. sometimes burning it down is the best option.
Avatar 7:30pm
Dez:

this is really a textbook IN REAL LIFE episode
  7:30pm
Tina:

We hear that a lot; the same goes for hotels.
  7:31pm
Emily:

@switchblade batman: thank you! Yeah though--I'm with you. I could never do this job. I was squeemy just hearing this!
  7:31pm
Tina:

We just have to cross our fingers that the apartment complex and/or the hotel remediated the situation properly
Avatar 7:31pm
kimzilla:

@Ken, oh my goodness, suicide by cops! That's terrible. @Heather, totally agree! You should check out our death episode from last year. (Karen T is in it talking about the loss of her mom) its was less heavy than this, but really informative.
  7:32pm
Tina:

It's definitely not your usual 9 to 5. We're very lucky to have all the employees that we do in the field. As patrick mentioned, many come from a military or first responder background.
  7:32pm
Emily:

@Will from Seattle: I'm so sorry you have firsthand knowledge of that--that sounds awful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm
chris:

do you use UV lights to check your work at the final stage, Tina?
  7:34pm
Tina:

@Chris we use something call ATP testing to confirm our work.
  7:34pm
Emily:

I believe the older woman who lived in my apt prior to us might have died there. They were vague about it, but it seems like that might be the case...either way, there are no traces, so they must've called the right people.
  7:34pm
Heather:

Thanks @ kimzilla, i will check that out! If you haven't already read it, Mary Roach wrote a book called "Stiff" that is fascinating!
  7:35pm
Tina:

@Chris this blog explains how we use ATP. https://www.aftermath.com/blog/aftermath-helps-decrease-liability-risk-improve-safety-atp-testing/

I used to work nights @Em and one day I came home, my elevator opened up and on the other side was EMTs with a body bag hauling off the lady next door. FREAKED ME OUT
Avatar 7:37pm
Will from Seattle:

I didn't know the person that well. Over a year ago I was living in a boarding house with 20+ people. One of the residents died locked in his room over Memorial Day weekend. No one knew he died until the following week. I remember a terrible smell coming from the door of his room, which I'd walk by on my way to the kitchen. I thought someone had some rotten food or something (some people in there were slobs). The landlord had it cleaned out, the smell stayed for at least a month.
  7:38pm
Tina:

@Will from Seattle - that sounds terrible! I'm sorry you had that experience. Hopefully they were able to remediate it properly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm

I looked in the room once the landlord deemed the room ready for a new tenant, IDK what it looked like before but it wasn't obvious to me.

@Will from Seattle: I had a similar experience in an apt building where I lived for awhile in NC--my neighbor across the hall.
